In just 23 minutes off the bench, the No. 7 overall pick, Aneesah Morrow, dropped a career-high 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Despite the Sun falling 83-75 to the Phoenix Mercury, Morrow’s night felt like a grand win. Until now, she hadn’t played more than 17 minutes in any game this season.
But on Wednesday, she made sure people were watching, especially Angel Reese, her former LSU teammate, who showed her support with a simple post: “LET HER COOK.” The 22-year-old forward is still adjusting to the WNBA pace, but her showing against Phoenix was a reminder of what she’s capable of when given the opportunity.
From DePaul To WNBA, Aneesah Morrow’s Resume Is No Fluke
Morrow’s college resume speaks volumes. As a freshman at DePaul, she set the Big East single-game record with 27 rebounds and the rookie scoring record with 41 points. She later dropped a DePaul-record 45 points against Northwestern as a sophomore.
In her final collegiate seasons (2023-25), she transferred to LSU. Joined forces with Angel Reese. Together, they powered the Tigers to the Elite Eight. Morrow wrapped her college career with a Katrina McClain Award, SEC All-Defensive Team honors, and a stack of All-American nods by 2025.

Connecticut picked her with the seventh overall pick after a standout career at DePaul and LSU. She led the NCAA in rebounding twice, was named a First-team All-SEC member, and finished with 2,852 points and 1,714 rebounds, both top 25 all-time marks in Division I history.
Morrow’s Career Night Puts Her WNBA Potential On Display
Before facing Phoenix, Morrow was barely seen on the floor, chipping in just 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 8.9 minutes per game. But when her number was finally called against the Mercury, the 6-foot-1 forward made her presence felt on both ends of the court. She shot 5-of-11 from the field and added three steals in her most efficient performance.
“PRETTY GRITTY😍 GO NEES!” Reese wrote in a second post after the game.

Although Morrow has struggled to find minutes behind the Sun’s veteran-heavy frontcourt. Wednesday’s game may change that trajectory.
