Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark, the biggest names on the Indiana Fever roster, have only had a short stint playing alongside each other since Cunningham only joined the Fever in 2025, while Clark was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick last year. And the 2025 WNBA season hasn’t gone according to plan for either of the two stars, as they have been sidelined from the game due to various injuries for a decent amount of time this year.
Despite missing from on-court action, Indiana had a decent run in the playoffs this season. In five competitive games, they dispatched the Atlanta Dream in round 1 but fell 2-3 against the Las Vegas Aces in the semifinals. While the duo had been on the sidelines cheering their teammates on despite the injuries, they have also actively indulged in other sporting action.
Sophie Cunningham Reveals Why Teammate Caitlin Clark Refused to Wear the Colts Jersey
The Indianapolis Colts played the Las Vegas Raiders in the NFL on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Clark and her fellow Fever teammates were special guests at the match. The Indiana roster was invited to the field ahead of the game and presented with a custom Colts jersey with their names printed on the back.
While most of the Fever stars wore their Colts jerseys for a photo session, Clark was observed not wearing the jersey but holding it against her upper torso, smiling. Many Colts fans voiced their confused reactions to Clark’s refusal to wear the jersey, speculating that she was a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
In the “Show Me Something” podcast, Wilson said, “The video of CC [Clark] not wearing her Colts jersey, f**king awesome. Her not doing that is so incredible. I hope she knows how awesome that was.”
Cunningham replied, “And I was like, I’m not surprised by it. I’m not because you know what? Everyone’s always trying to get her to like wear something or do something. And like, yeah, like I’m here, but I’m going to represent the Chiefs, baby.”
Sophie continued by saying that, despite getting traded to the Fever this year, she is starting to love the Colts’ football game. She also added that she had already been to a Colts game and loved the friendly crowd and excellent hospitality during the game.
Cunningham added, “I’m not. I would say I’m totally a bandwagoner because I just got traded to Indy, and I’ve never watched the Colts in my life. But when I did go there, everyone was so nice. And the beer and food were so good, too.”
Clark’s refusal to wear the Colts jersey on Sunday became a huge talking point, but her teammate has finally put the discussion to bed, stating that, as she grew up in Iowa, Clark has her allegiance to the Chiefs in the NFL.
