‘This Organization Is Unserious’ – Sky’s Bold Decision on Angel Reese Enrages Fans After WNBA Star’s Viral Comments

Sky fans erupt after Angel Reese’s suspension, blasting leadership and fearing the move could fracture team chemistry and her future in Chicago.

The Chicago Sky just lit a fire under their own fan base. In a season already filled with frustration, the franchise made a bold disciplinary call on Angel Reese that immediately sparked outrage online. At the tail end of a 10-31 season, the move has left fans questioning the team’s leadership and future direction.

Why Did the Sky Suspend Angel Reese During a Lost Season?

The Sky announced Friday, Sept. 5, that Angel Reese will be suspended for the first half of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces. The punishment came after Reese openly questioned the organization’s direction and her long-term future with the team in an interview with the Chicago Tribune.

“The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player,” the team said in their statement. “We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball. Because of statements detrimental to the team made by Angel Reese during league-mandated media, she will not play in the first half of the game on September 7 against the Las Vegas Aces. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.”

For many fans, the suspension felt like the wrong move at the wrong time. “I’ve been a die hard Chicago fan but I’m gonna root for whatever team Angel goes to next. This organization is unserious,” one fan wrote on X.

Another fan claimed the leadership isn’t worthy of Reese or the team: “The franchise — under the current leadership — is not worthy of her or the team,” echoing the sense that Reese’s blunt honesty struck a nerve with management rather than being taken as constructive criticism.

Some reactions went even further, warning that the Sky’s handling of Reese sent a troubling message. “Public retaliation shows that the organization does not value the safety or well-being of any of their members,” one fan posted, arguing that trust within the team environment may have been damaged.

The storm started with Reese herself. Speaking to the Chicago Tribune, she admitted frustration with the Sky’s direction and left the door open about her future. “I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously, I might have to move in a different direction,” she said. At 10-30 and officially out of the playoff picture, those comments hit like a bombshell.

Will Reese’s Suspension Put Team Chemistry at Risk as the Season Spirals?

The suspension sidelines the Sky’s best player and risks unraveling team chemistry. Reese is averaging 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, while also leading the league in rebounding. Losing her presence, even briefly, leaves a hole on the court and sends a shaky message in the locker room.

Reese was already sidelined for Friday’s matchup against the Indiana Fever after receiving a one-game ban for her eighth technical foul of 2025. Now, she’ll also sit out part of Sunday’s game against the Aces as well.

Some fans immediately connected the decision to broader organizational problems. “Angel echoed many of the fans’ thoughts. This team is not good enough. Also, Jeff needs to go,” one wrote, targeting management as the real issue rather than the sophomore star, while also framing Reese’s suspension as part of a larger pattern of dysfunction.

Reese has since apologized, telling reporters she “didn’t intentionally mean to put down my teammates.” However, her blunt assessment of Courtney Vandersloot’s uncertain future after an ACL tear struck a nerve.

“We can’t rely on Courtney to come back at the age that she’s at,” she said, calling for younger talent. Practical or not, those remarks risked creating friction with veterans in the locker room and gave critics another reason to question her leadership.

Still, the frustration is understandable. No rising star with championship ambitions wants to sit through a 10-30 season. And yet, punishing Reese, the very player carrying Chicago in points, rebounds, and assists, risks alienating the fan base even further.

As one fan captured the mood bluntly: “Say goodbye to Angel Reese…..she is definitely leaving now….this was a terrible move basically suspended her because she tired of losing is insane”

That sentiment reflects a growing fear among supporters that Reese may not see a future in Chicago. If she walks, the Sky could be facing a far bigger problem than the one they set out to solve.
