Sabrina Ionescu Shares Adorable Message After Emotional Moment With Young Fan

Sabrina Ionescu made a young fan’s night with a viral gesture after the Liberty’s win over the Aces by gifting sneakers and wiping away tears.

A young fan’s tears turned into pure joy Tuesday night, and Sabrina Ionescu was right there to make it happen. Following the New York Liberty’s 87-78 victory over the Las Vegas Aces, the 27-year-old guard noticed a courtside fan holding up a handwritten sign with a simple request. What happened next became one of the most heartwarming moments of the 2024-25 season, showing why Ionescu has become beloved far beyond her basketball skills.

What Made Sabrina Ionescu’s Postgame Gesture So Special?

The Liberty had struggled in certain areas during recent games against the Aces, but they finally found answers and came away with a nine-point victory on Tuesday night. New York didn’t grab a single offensive rebound in the first quarter, but by the end of the night, they had totaled nine offensive rebounds and 34 overall.

Ionescu delivered an outstanding performance, putting up 28 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists against the defending champions. This helped the Liberty improve to a 13-6 record on the 2024-25 campaign.

However, a heartwarming postgame moment that quickly went viral nearly overshadowed their much-needed victory. After the final buzzer, a young boy sitting courtside held up a handwritten sign that read, “Sabrina, can I get a pair of your sneakers?” Ionescu noticed the heartfelt request right away and didn’t hesitate. She walked over, removed her shoes, and gifted her pair to the little fan.

The moment became even more touching when Ionescu gently wiped away the young fan’s tears as he cried with emotion. She then signed an autograph and posed for photos with him. Ionescu later shared the wholesome moment in her Instagram story, writing, “Not me wiping his tears. This was so sweet.”

This wasn’t the first time Ionescu made such a generous gesture toward young fans. Last month, after a game against the Chicago Sky, she surprised a group of young fans by giving them a signed pair of her “Sabrina 2” sneakers. That night, she piled up 23 points and seven assists in an 85-66 Liberty win.

She also became the first player in WNBA history to record six career games with at least 25 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.

For the Aces, it was their sixth consecutive loss to the Liberty, dating back to the 2023-24 season. The defending champions continue to struggle against New York, who have found their formula for success against Las Vegas.
