Rickea Jackson Quashes Pregnancy Rumors After Returning to Sparks Fold

Rickea Jackson addressed the pregnancy rumors that did the rounds after she cited personal reasons to take time off from the game

The Los Angeles Sparks have enjoyed a boost thanks to Rickea Jackson. The forward rejoined the team after taking time off for personal reasons. And upon her return, she also quashed all rumors of pregnancy that circulated during her absence.

Earlier, Jackson trolled fans on social media with a viral selfie of herself with a basketball against her stomach. She captioned the image, “It’s a girl.” The pregnancy rumors weren’t the only theories that did the rounds, as some speculated that she was asking for a trade from Los Angeles.

Jackson set the record straight regarding her absence. The break came after the forward missed time on the floor after a nasty blow placed her in the WNBA’s concussion protocol. Per Sports Illustrated, Jackson spoke about how she handled the rumor mills churning.

“You’ve just got to be realistic with yourself,” Jackson said. “Like, at the end of the day, media isn’t about facts anymore… so that’s just the media. Just taking it with a grain of salt, and not being gullible.”

“Whatever sounds the juiciest, that’s what people want to go with,” she further added. “Like, I’m pregnant, apparently.”

In the same chat with the reporters, Jackson also talked about her fit and chemistry with the Sparks after the team has struggled early in the season.

“Yeah, it’s growing. Everything is new here. New system, new everything. So it takes time, but chemistry is built in time.”

Recall that Jackson was one of the breakout stars for Los Angeles last season. This time around, however, she has yet to make the same kind of impact that can help reignite LA’s spark. Through three games thus far this season, she is averaging just 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.3 blocks in just over 23 minutes per game.

In all, the Sparks are led by seasoned guard Kelsey Plum’s 22.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists through eight games played. Veteran Dearica Hamby has been off to a good start with 17.6 points and 7.9 rebounds.

Despite their contributions, the Western Conference team has yet to gain momentum as Los Angeles stays 11th in the WNBA standings with a dismal 2-6 record.

At the time of writing, Jackson is expected to lace up for Los Angeles’ next game against the Dallas Wings on Friday, June 6. The Wings have equally suffered with just one win in eight games.
