‘Completely Unserious Person’ — WNBA World Reacts As DiJonai Carrington Blames Ejection on ‘WHITE PRIVILEGE’ After Flagrant 2 on Sophie Cunningham

The WNBA world can't believe DiJonai Carrington's response to being ejected for her hard fould on Sophie Cunningham.

Another WNBA controversy broke out on Saturday; unsurprisingly, it included the Indiana Fever, but not Caitlin Clark. But Sophie Cunningham was still involved.

This time, it was because DiJonai Carrington of the Chicago Fire committed a hard Flagrant 2 foul on Cunningham and was ejected from the game. While the incident was notable in itself, it was what Carrington said afterward, posting “WHITE PRIVILEGE” on Threads, that really made headlines go wild.

Her reaction prompted a strong response on social media in the WNBA world.

WNBA Fans React to DiJonai Carrington’s Claims

It didn’t take long for social media to chime in on Carrington’s response.

The Athletic‘s Indianapolis Colts insider James Boyd called her a “completely unserious person.”

One account went so far as to accuse Carrington of capitalizing on her moment in the spotlight and wanting to take things further.

Dijonai saw the opportunity to get her name in the headlines and took it… Can’t wait to see what she comes onto this app and says later about Fever fans while the ‘Reeses Pieces’ treat her like a hero for trying to hurt someone…”

That user also jokingly suggested that the WNBA would rope Clark into this, unless they possibly made a mistake and intended to say Cunningham instead. Either way, they’re suggesting this incident will get spun in a different direction.

“I can’t wait until the media demand Caitlin Clark apologize to Dijonai… What way do we think they’ll spin it??”

Meanwhile, one commenter went after Carrington, suggesting she was clearly in the wrong here.

“It’s gotta be some type of delusion!!!! Did you not watch the play that you just did?”

One commenter even called Carrington “exhausting” and it’s been that way for “YEARS.”

“🙄 she’s truly the most exhausting person for a multitude of reasons. I’ve felt that way for YEARS and every time I think about changing my mind, she’s quick to remind me 😂”

Former WNBA All-Star Stacey Dales even chimed in, calling it a “terrible, completely unnecessary foul.”

“What a terrible foul by DiJonai Carrington. Completely unnecessary, especially after she was playing so well on the offensive end of the floor. Good for Cunningham for reacting cannot blame her. Flagrant two no doubt.”

Another commenter found Carrington’s reaction to be ridiculous, saying, “What a comment to make after earning a flagrant 2 nearly taking off Sophie’s head.”

One X user said Carrington’s reaction is “insane.”

“This is insane. Claiming a hard foul and ejection is a result of white privilege is insane, even for her. We’ve lost the plot of the W if that’s what the @WNBA wants to allow.”

Chances are, this isn’t the last on this incident. Cunningham has yet to be given a chance to respond, and the WNBA could still potentially take further action here too.
