Paige Bueckers entered the WNBA with the same buzz as Caitlin Clark. Many believed she was the only player who could match Clark’s star power. But her first four games didn’t quite reflect the player fans had seen dominate at UConn.
She looked hesitant, still adjusting to the pace. That changed on Tuesday, May 27. Bueckers finally broke through and made WNBA history while leading the Dallas Wings to their first win of the season in a powerful, complete performance.
Paige Bueckers Delivers a Record-Breaking Night in Connecticut
Bueckers completely took over against the Connecticut Suns. Playing in familiar surroundings where she built her name in college, the rookie looked right at home. She opened the game with energy and confidence, dropping 15 points, four rebounds, and five assists in the first half alone. The Wings built a comfortable 14-point lead by halftime, and Bueckers was at the heart of it.
She hit a smooth 13-foot pull-up jumper in the third quarter to reach 21 points. But it wasn’t just the scoring that stood out. She was efficient and sharp, finishing with 80% shooting from the field. That efficiency helped her make history.

According to Real Sports, Bueckers became the first rookie since 2005 to post a game with 20+ points, 5+ rebounds, 5+ assists, and shoot over 80% from the field. It’s the kind of all-around performance that coaches dream about from young players.

She ended the night with seven assists, five rebounds, two steals, and a block, showcasing her overall brilliance. And now, just five games into her career, she’s already in the record books again: Bueckers is the first player in WNBA history to score 60 points and hand out 30 assists across her first five games.
While Paige led the charge, Arike Ogunbowale provided the dagger. The veteran guard hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the third quarter and finished with 19 points, six steals, and four assists. Together, they put away a struggling Sun team that still hasn’t picked up a win this season.
Bueckers now looks like the early favorite for Rookie of the Year. Her numbers are trending up, and her confidence is building. She came into the game averaging 13 points and 6.5 assists per night. But Tuesday’s bounce-back felt like the beginning of something bigger.
Bueckers Credited Her Team for the Performance
After the game, Bueckers credited her team for the rhythm.
“Just taking what the defense was giving me,” she said. “My teammates did a great job of setting screens, getting me open, creating rhythm and flow and letting me get to my spots… When we share the ball like that, change sides of the floor, it puts pressure on the defense and it creates a lot more open looks for us.”
Now, Bueckers and the Wings will wrap up their road trip on Thursday, May 29, against the Chicago Sky before hosting them for a rematch on Saturday, May 31. With her confidence rising and her game clicking into place, Bueckers finally shows the threat she poses to the opponents.
