WATCH: The Moment Paige Bueckers Learned She Was Voted a WNBA All-Star Starter as a Rookie

Paige Bueckers named a 2025 WNBA All-Star starter as a rookie. Watch her reaction as Wings GM Curt Miller breaks the news over a phone call.

Dallas Wings‘ rookie Paige Bueckers just added another milestone to her resume, and this one is historic. On Monday, Bueckers learned she had been named a 2025 WNBA All-Star starter, becoming the franchise’s first rookie to earn a starting nod.

Her reaction, caught on video during a call with Wings general manager Curt Miller, captured the weight of the moment.

Paige Bueckers Becomes Sixth No. 1 Pick To Start WNBA All-Star Game

Bueckers, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, becomes just the sixth top pick to start the All-Star Game as a rookie, joining Caitlin Clark (2024), Aliyah Boston (2023), Maya Moore (2011), Sue Bird (2002), and Chamique Holdsclaw (1999). She also becomes the 10th rookie overall to start in the event.

The announcement came during a phone call with Miller, who told her:

“Paige, I’m happy to report and congratulate you that not only have you been named to the 2025 WNBA All-Star team, you have been named a starter, in your rookie season, for the WNBA All-Star Game.”

A smiling Bueckers replied:

“Wow. Thanks, Curt. I appreciate it. Thank you.”

The Dallas Wings’ official X handle caught the moment live. Earlier, they also celebrated the achievement with a separate post that read: “One of one ⭐️ In her rookie season, Paige Bueckers is an All-Star starter in Indy!”

Bueckers earned the starting spot after finishing second among guards in fan voting, fifth in media voting, and fourth among players. Her weighted score of 3.25 was the highest among all backcourt players. She’s also the first Wings rookie to be named an All-Star starter, breaking new ground for a franchise whose only previous rookie All-Stars were Cheryl Ford (2003) and Liz Cambage (2011) under different team names.

Strong Start to the Season Fuels All-Star Campaign

Through 13 games, Bueckers is averaging 18.4 points, 5.8 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game. She’s scored in double figures in every appearance, ranks 11th in the league in scoring, and sixth in assists. She recently posted a career-high 35 points against the Mercury.

Bueckers also made history by becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 200 points, 50 rebounds, and 50 assists, hitting the milestone in just 11 games. She’s currently the only rookie named to the All-Star starting lineup and is widely viewed as the league’s most consistent first-year player.

The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game will be held on July 19 at 8:30 p.m. ET at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and broadcast on ABC, Disney+, and ESPN+. Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark and Minnesota Lynx’s Napheesa Collier, who led in fan votes, have been named the captains for the game.
