We are officially over a month into the 2025 WNBA season, and it has been quite the ride already. The season has been particularly interesting for Dallas Wings star and No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers, as there have been a lot of positives as well as negatives through her first month in the WNBA.
That said, her negatives are primarily for the team as a whole, as they have struggled to win games early on this season. Sitting with a 3-11 record through 14 games, they’re not exactly in the position they would have hoped to be in with Bueckers’ aid. Even so, the top pick in the 2025 WNBA draft has absolutely lived up to expectations, as she’s been unbelievable thus far.
Bueckers has averaged an impressive 17.7 PPG, 4.1 RPG, and 5.8 APG through 10 games. While this stat line is incredible, perhaps the most unreal stat is that she has yet to score below double digits, and her career-high is already 35 points.
Bueckers Sets New WNBA Record Despite Team Struggles
Coming into the WNBA, there was a lot of pressure on Bueckers to live up to not just her expectations, but the bar set last season by Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. Clark had one of the best rookie seasons in league history, and it would be very challenging for any player to try to even match the same success.
Thankfully for Bueckers, challenging or not, she has done a great job of meeting these expectations, as she’s had just as good, if not better of a rookie season thus far. In fact, one verified achievement displays this beautifully, as she surpassed Caitlin Clark as the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 200 points and 50 assists, accomplishing the feat in just 11 games compared to Clark’s 12 games.

It’s worth noting that Clark’s historic run didn’t happen until further toward the end of the season, but to this point, Bueckers is giving her a run for her money. Clark’s all-around game is what makes her so special, and this achievement shows Bueckers has been an exceptional all-around player so far.
This isn’t to say she is or will be better than Clark, but rather to highlight just how impressive Bueckers has been despite the struggle of the team as a whole. The former UConn star has also dealt with adversity early in her professional career, missing four games due to a concussion and illness before returning with a career-high 35-point performance against the Phoenix Mercury.
If she continues at this pace, Dallas will undoubtedly improve as a result, and she will make a case to be one of the top players in the league by the end of this season. The Wings, who underwent significant changes in the offseason with new management and coaching staff, are banking on Bueckers to help turn around a franchise that has struggled to find consistent success since relocating to Dallas in 2016.
