‘Best Player in the World’ — Pacers Guard Boldly Backs Caitlin Clark After NBA Summer League Linkup

Indiana Pacers guard Yuki Kawamura's comments about Caitlin Clark after the Pacers' Summer League victory have caught fans' attention.

The NBA Summer League is in full swing. On Friday night, the Indiana Pacers took on the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas and came away with a 99-93 victory.

While the result itself was important, one postgame moment quickly grabbed attention when Pacers guard Yuki Kawamura spoke about Caitlin Clark’s presence in the arena.

Yuki Kawamura’s Recent Comment Regarding Caitlin Clark

Kawamura was asked about seeing Clark at the arena. The Pacers guard had nothing but good things to say about her.

“She’s the best player in the world right now, so it means everything,” Kawamura said during the interview.

It has almost become an unspoken tradition between Indiana’s NBA and WNBA franchises to support one another. Players from both teams are regularly seen attending each other’s games whenever their schedules allow.

Last season, Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton made headlines when he showed up to support the Fever during one of their games. On Friday night, it was Clark and Aliyah Boston returning the favor by cheering on the Pacers during their matchup against Cleveland.

Now, having Clark in the stands really seemed to bring out the best in the Pacers roster. Rienk Mast put together a double-double. He finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Taevion Kinsey also scored 16 points. Kawamura himself scored eight points and dished out four assists.

The game itself did not start smoothly for Indiana. They trailed by three points after the first quarter. But by halftime, they had flipped the script and were up by two points. The real difference came after the break, when the Pacers scored 56 points in the second half alone and went on to win the game.

As for Clark, she has been putting together a strong season of her own back in the WNBA. The Fever currently has a 13-9 record and has won six of its last 10 outings. Through 18 games, Clark has averaged 20.5 points, 7.9 assists, and four rebounds.

Not only Clark, but Boston has also been supporting the team a lot in crucial moments. She has been averaging 17.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.

The Pacers will now turn their attention to their next Summer League matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. It will be interesting to see whether another Fever player makes the trip to support Indiana.
