The WNBA season is fast approaching with the preseason beginning this weekend. Several teams have revamped their rosters, retooling with the intention of competing for the WNBA championship.
The Las Vegas Aces are coming back with a vengeance as Jewell Loyd recently joined the former championship squad. The New York Liberty are the defending champions and will have a target on their back as well.
The WNBA has a wealth of talent, and it seems as if some of the rookie class this year has spawned quite the reactions from the fanbase. While those reactions and the draft class pales in comparison to last year’s class, there is a lot of buzz around several teams.
The Washington Mystics’ Roster Sparks Reactions From Fans
The Washington Mystics are one of the teams that have many people talking about what their ceiling is in the league this season. The Mystics had a successful WNBA draft, finishing with three picks in the top 10. Those picks could change the trajectory of the entire WNBA.
The third pick of the draft and their first pick on the night, Sonia Citron, helped Notre Dame become a formidable squad, averaging 14.1 points and 5.4 rebounds as a lead guard. The fourth pick in the draft and their second pick of the night, Kiki Iriafen, is a household name and a potential game changer for the franchise.
The final lottery pick for the Mystics, Georgia Amoore went 6th in the draft and was known for her tremendous guard play at Virginia Tech and Kentucky. This trio of Amoore, Iriafen, and Citron have fans excited about the prospect of what they all can do on this roster. One fan even called the team stacked as the new season approaches.

The Mystics also made two more selections later on in the first round, giving them a large amount of depth heading into the next season.
As the Mystics stars appeared for their team photoshoots, fans reacted to the huge level of talent on the roster. One Instagram user wrote, “That team is stacked with them and Edwards!”
While another user wrote, “I can’t believe [they’re] all on the same team.” Although it is still unbelievable that the Mystics seem to be having several talented youngsters, tragedy struck Amoore recently. The rookie from Kentucky suffered an ACL injury just days before her WNBA dream came true.
Can The Mystics Make A Run?
The Mystics are boasting a solid roster that is now bolstered by their three lottery picks, but veterans Stefanie Dolson, Aaliyah Edwards, and Brittanie Sykes can help the young rookies continue to develop into superstars.
It will be interesting to see how the Mystics fare as they enter the new season, but their fanbase is excited about the prospect of them competing with the top teams of the league. While the Mystics do look stacked on paper, it has to translate on the court.
Will the Mystics be able to pull off a successful season with their new rookie class? Could a potential run at the WNBA Finals be in the cards for the team of the nation’s capital? Time will tell.
