A’ja Wilson and Angel Reese produced one of the most unforgettable moments of the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game. In the second quarter, Wilson, playing for Team Spoon, blocked Reese’s layup without even trying.
In the postgame interview, the 2025 WNBA Co-Defensive Player of the Year explained that she did not intend to reject the Team Coop forward’s shot.
Nonetheless, the viral play sparked a buzz on social media.

In the said play, Wilson was backpedaling as Reese led her team’s fast break. The Atlanta Dream star, who didn’t wait for her teammates, went directly at Wilson, who did not even jump to smother the shot.
The four-time MVP grabbed the rebound, passed it to Caitlin Clark, who fed Jessica Shepard for a layup. While Clark and Shepard completed the play, Wilson and Reese shared a laugh at the previous play, drawing strong reactions from the WNBA community.

“Why should anyone be surprised at this point when Angel Reese blows a layup?” another observer remarked.

After the game, Wilson said that Reese wasn’t supposed to attempt the layup as she was trying to get out of the way. The three-time champ added that having her shot blocked never happened to her, so she apologized.

Reese made only one attempt, the shot that Wilson rejected, but contributed 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The Dream forward had a disappointing nine minutes of action, the least from her team.

Meanwhile, Wilson ended with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and one halfhearted block against Reese. Midway through the third quarter, she hit a 13-foot fadeaway jumper off a nifty pass from Clark for her final points of the game while Jonquel Jones, who earned MVP honors, led Team Spoon to a 129-122 win.
