Jonquel Jones Uses Injury Downtime To Catch Up on ‘Love Island’ as Liberty Star Drops Takes on Latest Episode

Jonquel Jones is out with an ankle injury, but she's keeping busy tweeting about Love Island as the Liberty deal with a 10-day road trip.

The New York Liberty face a tough stretch in the coming weeks after dropping one spot to No. 3 in the latest WNBA power rankings, per ESPN. They’re also without star forward Jonquel Jones, who re-injured her ankle and is currently sidelined for the foreseeable future.

But as the Liberty navigate choppy waters, Jones seems to be making the most of her downtime with “Love Island.”

Jonquel Jones Is a “Love Island” Fan

Sitting at home can be mentally tough for some, but productive for others. Jones is in the latter camp, using the time to catch up on her favorite reality TV show, “Love Island.”

As she continues binge-watching, she’s been tweeting her thoughts about the cast, giving fans a glimpse into how she’s spending her recovery.

Like many fans, Jones was upset about Olandria’s elimination from the show.

She also let her feelings about Ace be known.

Those are just a couple of the many “Love Island” tweets she’s posted, showing off her full-on fandom. Fans hope the updates keep coming until she’s ready to return to the court.

Jonquel Jones’ Absence Looming Over Liberty

The Liberty are in the hunt for another title, but Jones’ absence looms large. She’s expected to miss four to six more weeks with her ankle injury, leaving Breanna Stewart to carry the load inside.

According to the Liberty front office, Jones may be out at least through the WNBA All-Star Weekend, set for July 18-19.

She remained in New York City for rest and further testing while the team traveled to Seattle on Friday. Medical evaluations and imaging confirmed Jones avoided a long-term injury during Thursday’s game.

The injury happened at Barclays Center in the second quarter of the Liberty’s 89-81 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on June 19. She exited the game at the 3:35 mark and was helped to the locker room. After the game, she was seen wearing a walking boot.

She had just returned to action two days earlier after spraining her ankle on June 5 against the Washington Mystics.

It’s a big loss for the Liberty, who have dropped two straight and are now on a 10-day road trip that began June 22. Their first game of the trip was a 10 point defeat at the hands of the Seattle Storm, and they’ll look to get back to their winning ways in their next matchup against the Golden State Valkyries on June 25.

New York thrives on defense when Jones is active. Without her, the team struggles with rebounding. The Liberty will need to step up their effort on the boards while their star forward recovers.
