After two days off following their 84-68 win over the Las Vegas Aces, the Indiana Fever are back in action tonight. They’ll be taking on the Los Angeles Sparks, but the question everyone wants to know is: will Caitlin Clark play?
The two-time WNBA All-Star hasn’t been in the lineup since the Fever’s 111-109 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on June 24. Dealing with a back injury that’s kept her out for the last two games, both of which Indiana won, Clark has been making good progress, and now indications are that her return is near.
Caitlin Clark Expected to Play Tonight, But Not Tomorrow
According to the WNBA’s official injury report, Clark is listed as “probable” for tonight’s game against the Sparks.
And according to Fever head coach Steph White, Clark will be in the lineup for Wednesday’s matchup, but won’t play in Thursday’s rematch against the Mercury.

Considering Clark was injured after a very physical contest against Alyssa Thomas and the Mercury, as noted, it’s “probably a good call” for her to sit out the upcoming matchup.
Meanwhile, the Fever are going strong this season, sitting in first place in the Eastern Conference with a 12-8 record. While they don’t want to push Clark to return before she’s ready, they also know she’s a fierce competitor who doesn’t want to sit too long before returning to battle.
Averaging 21.2 points per game, Clark ranks fourth in the WNBA in scoring. She is also averaging 8.2 assists per game, which is tied for first place with Phoenix’s Thomas.
Tonight marks a chance for Clark to get back out there and continue building on those numbers while strengthening the Fever’s playoff positioning.
The Fever have won both of their previous matchups over the Sparks this season by a total of 33 points. The first matchup, back in May, was a close win by just nine points, but their recent showing came without Clark, and Indiana still won by 24.
As for tomorrow night’s matchup against Phoenix, the one that will be without Clark, Indiana has had more trouble.
The Fever won their June 22 matchup against the Mercury by nine points. The following matchup is when Clark got hurt, and Phoenix emerged victorious by two points. Now they’ll soldier on without her against Phoenix, but not before Clark delivers a jolt of energy versus Los Angeles tonight.
