Indiana Fever star guard Sophie Cunningham is known to be outspoken and straightforward while putting her word across the table during media interviews or selective interactions on various podcasts, events, and shows. She was featured in the latest episode of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast to discuss various on and off-court topics, where she revealed her latest decision to move to Florida.
Why Is Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Moving to Florida?
During the podcast episode, Wilson asked Cunningham, “Are you moving? Where are you moving? Like, are you going to go or are you going to be in Florida?” Sophie replied, “So I think I’m from Eugene, I’m going straight to Phoenix. I’m going to be there pretty much all month, just trying to pack up my house and whatnot.”
She added, “I’ve been living out of three suitcases still in. And then I am going to Florida to buy a house that I’m hopefully going to live in, but also like to rent it out…So, I’m going on the 23rd to like go look at a house and buy one.”
Furthermore, Cunningham revealed some information regarding income tax and how moving to a different state will only increase the places she files her taxes. “You know, the kind of s**t part about it. And I’m sure everyone’s like, ‘Duh, Sophie.’ But like we’re an entertainment business.”
She added, “And so I have to pay taxes in 12 states. And next year will be 14, including Canada. Because we play in all these cities, and it’s an entertainment, so I have to pay them taxes because we play there.”
Sophie concluded, “Any entertainer, if they do concerts, if they do anything, if you make money by bringing fans and stuff there, you have to pay taxes there. I don’t know if it’s income tax, but I know for a fact I get taxed in 12 now 13 different states.”
The Fever star has been sidelined from on-court action since August 17, when she sustained a knee injury during a regular-season game against the Connecticut Sun. Medical reports confirmed that she tore her right MCL.
Despite the injury, Sophie was on the sidelines cheering her teammates on as they had an impressive run in the playoffs, which ended with a Game 5 overtime loss to the Las Vegas Aces. The 29-year-old shooting guard will be eyeing a timely recovery and aim to perform at a more consistent level next season, with Indiana looking to get past their injury woes as well.
