Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Raves About NASCAR Experience Alongside Sydney Sweeney

If there’s someone who knows how to make the most of the WNBA offseason, it’s Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham. Sidelined before the season could end, Cunningham has had a tumultuous 2025 season at best. And while the Fever couldn’t bring home a championship, Cunningham has made sure to enjoy her time off.

This month, Cunningham chose to attend a NASCAR race, making headlines for her appearance and interaction with actress Sydney Sweeney.

To those unaware, Cunningham went viral for attending the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race in Arizona on Sunday, Nov. 2. The 29-year-old certainly enjoyed the new experience, even catching traction for her meeting with Sweeney.

Cunningham, in a recent clip, highlighted what she enjoyed about the NASCAR race. “I had one of the better weekends that I’ve had in a really long time,” Cunningham explained on her podcast ‘Show Me Something.’

Her co-host, West Wilson, mentioned Sweeney, pointing out that she met the actress as well.

“I had a f–king blast at NASCAR,” Cunningham continued. “Like I think those are my people, that’s where I belong. How I met Sydney — she’s actually so nice. I think she’s a very nice girl. We just talked for like, I’d say, a minute. Two minutes. It was really quick. There was celebrities and VIPs so we were all kind of doing our own thing. So it was very quick, like, ‘hey, how are you. So nice to meet you.”

That being said, Cunningham also ended up attending the Jordan Davis concert at the event, which she described as ‘awesome.’

“And then, I got to do the pace car,” Cunningham continued. “F–king awesome! I don’t even know how to explain it. Like…the whole time I was just happy.”

She described it as the ‘coolest experience’, mentioning that they did five laps and even sped up a little.

Cunningham Also Provided an Update About Her MCL Injury

On Aug. 17, Cunningham was sidelined for the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season due to her MCL tear in her right knee. Naturally, Cunningham’s recovery has been a point of concern. The roster needs to be at full strength by 2026 to aim for a championship.

Cunningham, though, admitted to being inconsistent with her rehab. “I’m not the most patient person. I do pray for patience, but I kind of let myself out of that cast without a doctor’s order,” she said in an earlier podcast appearance.

“I had my check-up and they’re like, ‘You’re progressing really well and you look awesome.’ I said, ‘Say less.’”

Averaging 8.6 points and 3.5 assists per game, Cunningham was a key player on the Fever roster and is expected to return for her eighth WNBA campaign.
