After a red-hot preseason that had fans buzzing with excitement, the Indiana Fever’s regular season has hit a significant speed bump. With four losses already on the books, the Fever’s momentum has slowed, and two of those losses came without standout Caitlin Clark, who currently remains absent from the court, recuperating from a left quadriceps strain.
Under such dire circumstances, when the team struggles to regain footing, Fever president Kelly Krauskopf has stepped up with a bold new strategy to stabilize the roster and fill the void.
Kelly Krauskopf Plans To Add a New Player in Caitlin Clark’s Absence
During a practice session on Sunday, June 1, Krauskopf revealed that the front office is actively working to resolve what she called a glaring issue on the Fever’s roster: the absence of a true point guard.
With Clark out of the lineup, the team has been without its offensive engine, and its impact is adequately visible.
“We’re down in numbers. But we’re looking at adding another player. A replacement player to help us with the numbers and to try to get people healthy. Trying to get a full roster back together, I mean, games are still coming, so it’s gonna be an adjustment. But if you have a good group and we have the good depth, thankfully, so that should help us,” said Krauskopf during the interview.
Moreover, when a reporter asked if the front office plans to bring the player before Tuesday’s game against the Washington Mystics, Krauskopf replied: “We’re hoping, yeah.”
Fever President Kelly Krauskopf says they’re looking at options to add another player on a hardship, especially as they only have two healthy guards right now.

This revelation has stirred optimism among fans who’ve been pining to get Clark back on the floor. Since her injury, the Fever have dropped two consecutive games — one to the Mystics and another to the Connecticut Sun.
Even though standouts like Aliyah Boston and DeWanna Bonner put up respectable performances, averaging 13.5 and 17 points, respectively, over those games, it wasn’t enough to compensate for the lack of ball movement and floor leadership that Clark brings.
Before her injury, Clark had been putting up strong numbers, averaging 19.0 points, 9.3 assists, and six rebounds per game. More than just a scorer, her playmaking and vision helped elevate her teammates and bolster the offense.
Fans are now anxiously watching for updates on Clark’s recovery and news on who the Fever will bring in to salvage a sinking ship.
Krauskopf Has Kept Her Word
Krauskopf has kept her promise to strengthen the roster despite injury troubles. With Clark sidelined, she has wasted no time adding a new player to keep the team competitive.
On June 2, it was revealed that the Fever had signed guard Aari McDonald to the roster using the WNBA’s “emergency hardship exception.” This rule allows a team to sign a player immediately if they are below 10 game-eligible players.
With Clark, Sophie Cunningham, and Sydney Colson all out due to injuries, the Fever were left shorthanded, and this was a timely and smart decision.
we have signed Aari McDonald via emergency hardship exception.
welcome to Indy, Aari 👋

While Fever fans await Clark’s return from a quad injury, McDonald’s addition is a welcome move. The 26-year-old guard brings valuable experience and energy to the backcourt. Last season with the Los Angeles Sparks, she averaged 8.7 points, 3.7 assists, and two rebounds per game. Her quickness and playmaking ability will be key as the Fever prepare to face the Mystics on Tuesday, June 3.
