Whitlock claimed that the high number of former WNBA players who are part of major studio teams and official league broadcasts tends to ‘dumb down’ the conversation.
Notably, Whitlock’s comments came amid TNT Sports’ wall-to-wall coverage of the ongoing FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, where the network’s broadcast team includes former WNBA players such as Renee Montgomery and Tina Charles serving as analysts throughout the tournament.
“The TV networks broadcasting women’s basketball in America completely dumb down the convo by installing former players in every studio,” he wrote. “They’re so concerned with ‘vibe’ no one ever hears an informed opinion about what is taking place.”

Of course, fans were quick to respond, with many wholeheartedly agreeing. This one, for example, claimed the NBA should simply stop funding the WNBA, writing, “The NBA needs to pull the funding on this WNBA [expletive].”
