Heading into the weekend, Teresa Weatherspoon and Stephanie Ready highlighted Angel Reese’s “offensive strides” and pointed out that the Atlanta Dream star is “trusting her work.”
However, the WNBA world wasn’t pleased with their statements, and fuming fans stormed social media.

As a five-time WNBA All-Star, fans were hoping for more constructive criticism from Weatherspoon as she unpacked Reese’s offensive production. Instead, Reese received praise, which left social media in an uproar.
Doug Kezirian of The Athletic reposted the video and wrote, “Embarrassing content. National WNBA media wastes our time with agendas, and unfortunately delusional fan bases eat it up. How about stop the coddling and show what a coach SHOULD be saying so she can improve her offensive game (bec she absolutely has the skills to do that).”

One user commented, “She’s literally the most inefficient paint scorer I’ve ever seen.”
When reflecting on Reese’s 2025 campaign with the Chicago Sky, she averaged 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, while shooting 45.8% from the floor. This year, she’s raised her average to 16.1 points per game, but she is down in rebounds (12.5) and assists (2.8).

Women’s basketball podcaster and former basketball writer Rosalina Lee added to the controversy. She posted, “The glaze on her perimeter game makes this take sound disingenuous.”
Lee followed up with, “There are plenty of legitimate things to highlight about Angel’s game, but pretending the perimeter shooting isn’t a glaring weakness when she’s shooting 18% from three rn is giving a participation trophy.”

Reese’s strengths still reside in her rebounding, while her offensive production is often overshadowed by her teammates.
One user responded, “So she doubled her 3 point shooting, increased her overall shooting attempts, and is getting to the free throw line more, but the result is a 1 point increase in scoring? These are not highlights this is an indictment.”

The controversy didn’t end there, as one user highlighted, “This is so stupid. Offensive strides? Year over year Reese is down in FG%, 2Pt%, 3Pt%, eFG%, TS%, FT%, Rebounds and Assists. Worse in every metric. Taking more shots while shooting worse isn’t a good thing.”

Although Reese’s overall numbers are stronger than those in her rookie season, she is down in several metrics since her 2025 campaign.
Another hot take from an X user stated, “AR has the craziest PR, she’s getting praise on national television for ‘attempting threes’ and ‘trusting her work’ all while they know she shoots 18% on those attempts.”
A different account under the name of “Angel Reese Truth Teller” commented, “Praising 3 point attempts shooting 18%.”
