From the first time DiJonai Carrington steps on the court, her relentless intensity and lace-tightening drive make her impossible to ignore. With a playing style that blends pinpoint shooting and a contagious swagger, Carrington has emerged as both a spark plug and a stabilizing presence for the Dallas Wings, who signed her last year.
Even as her current team stumbles through a 1–9 start to the season, the WNBA All-Defensive First Team insists that the real drama unfolds only on the scoreboard, not behind closed doors. She asserted that everything is well between the Wings players.
DiJonai Carrington Denies Locker Room Fights Among Dallas Wings Players
To curb fan theories, Carrington slammed all rumors of discord during a live stream. “I think the locker room is one of the most important things when you’re building a team. Even though we’re losing right now, like, there’s no problems in the locker room. You’re still like, ‘All right, we’re trying to figure it out’. We were talking about this today, it’s not like ‘Ugh, I gotta go to work.'” Carrington told fans.

The Wings have endured one of the toughest starts in recent WNBA history. After nine games, Dallas sits at the bottom of the league standings, beleaguered by close losses, inconsistent play, and a rash of untimely injuries.
Their lone victory was a gritty 109–87 win over the Connecticut Sun at the Mohegan Sun Arena, where Carrington scored 16 points. But it came before Bueckers was sidelined by concussion protocol on May 30 after colliding with Chicago’s Courtney Vandersloot.
Bueckers suffered a concussion on May 29 after a collision in the first half against the Chicago Sky. The injury forced her out of four games and has kept her off the court indefinitely. This has left the Wings without their primary playmaker and leading scorer, who averaged 14.7 points and 6.7 assists in her first six NBA games.
Veteran guard Tyasha Harris joined her in the infirmary, as a knee injury has also knocked her out of the rotation, further straining Dallas’s backcourt depth. The constant loss has been hard on both the Dallas Wings and their fans.
Dallas Wings’ Turbulent 2025 WNBA Season
Defensively, the Wings have shown tantalizing glimpses of potential. They held Seattle scoreless for stretches in the third quarter on June 3, forcing turnovers and contesting shots aggressively. Yet late-game lapses, most glaringly a 14–2 third-quarter run by the Storm, have repeatedly undone their efforts. Arike Ogunbowale’s eight points from 4-of-15 shooting also ensured Seattle’s 83–77 win that night.
Amid these struggles, Carrington has been pressed into a quasi-point-guard role. She has overtaken the task of orchestrating the offense in Bueckers’s absence. While she has shown flashes, pouring in a team-high 16 points in the loss to Los Angeles on June 6, her transition has not been seamless. Still, the Wings lost to the Sparks 79–93.
Looking ahead, the calendar offers no reprieve. Dallas travels to Phoenix on June 11, then to face the Aces in Vegas on June 13 before going against the Valkyries and Connecticut. Each matchup presents a measuring stick for the Wings’ progress.

Paige Bueckers’s status remains uncertain. Though she cleared concussion protocol on June 8, an illness forced her out of the most recent game, and the Wings have yet to announce a definitive return date. If Carrington’s claim of locker-room harmony holds true, Dallas will lean on its veteran leadership to navigate the gauntlet.
