The Indiana Fever won their 23rd game of the season after defeating the Atlanta Dream 95-91 in overtime on Sunday. After the game, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who is a well-known Caitlin Clark fan, had plenty to say about what he saw.
Dave Portnoy Reveals Interest in Buying WNBA Team After Fever-Dream
On Monday, during a segment of “Wake Up Barstool,” Portnoy and the other hosts reviewed the standout moments from Sunday’s game.
Portnoy zeroed in on the moment when Angel Reese missed what would have been the game-winning layup. The cameras happened to catch it perfectly, showing a smiling Clark walking right behind a frustrated Reese.
Portnoy couldn’t help but bring it up on the show, pointing to it as one of the moments that made the night so much fun to watch.
“It was a great game. The game’s on the line, tie game, miss three from Atlanta. Angel Reese gets the rebound… Angel rebounds out of the buzzer and misses another layup. And then a second layup at the buzzer misses. There’s a GIF that came out of Angel right like this. Right here. And here comes Caitlin, right on cue, laughing at her demise. An all-time clip that will be used forever,” Portnoy said during the segment.
But Portnoy didn’t stop there. He also talked about how entertaining Sunday’s game was and said he’s interested in owning a team himself.
“This was a great game. I don’t know what the ratings are yet. I bet they are gigantic. I’ve been saying this when people always poo-poo the WNBA and last year’s like, if I could buy a WNBA team, I would do it from a business perspective in this flat, because this league is a rocketship and all the stuff that surrounds it only makes it more volatile, more must-watch, more exciting.”

The game backed up what Portnoy was saying. It was close, and it kept people watching. After the first quarter, both teams were tied at 21. By halftime, the Dream had pulled ahead by four points.
But in the second half, Atlanta’s offense cooled off. Indiana took advantage and scored 41 points in that stretch, which forced overtime. In overtime, the Fever scored 14 points and eventually walked away with the win.
Clark led the way for the Fever. She put up 26 points, three rebounds, and nine assists. Kelsey Mitchell and Makayla Timpson each scored 20 points to back her up.
On the Dream’s side, Allisha Gray had a huge night with 32 points, and Reese added 15 points. Even with that kind of effort, it wasn’t enough to get Atlanta the win.
What made the game different from many other regular-season matchups was how clearly the Clark-Reese rivalry was on display. Their performances were important, but the late-game sequence involving Reese’s missed layup and Clark’s reaction gave fans another moment to discuss.
