WNBA Legend Candace Parker Reveals the Real Reason She Picked Fever Star Aliyah Boston As Co-Host of Her New Podcast

The WNBA world is about to get a fresh perspective on the game. Last week, reports revealed that WNBA legend Candace Parker is teaming up with Indiana Fever center Aliyah Boston for a new podcast that promises to blend veteran wisdom with current player insights. Their unlikely partnership began with a moment of pure basketball joy that neither will forget.

How Did Candace Parker and Aliyah Boston’s Unexpected Partnership Begin?

The video podcast Post Moves launches next week, with episodes released every Wednesday. The debut episode will focus on the WNBA All-Star weekend in Indianapolis, bringing together two players who share more than just basketball excellence.

Like Parker, Boston earned Rookie of the Year honors and multiple All-Star selections. Both also dominated college basketball, capturing prestigious awards including the Wooden Award and Naismith College Player of the Year.

However, their connection runs deeper than shared accolades. In a recent interview, while speaking about the upcoming podcast, Parker described how they first met: “I didn’t know Aliyah before the national championship game, and she took her moment when she was getting the national championship trophy.

“[She] was on stage with Holly Rowe, she looked at me and said, ‘Hey girl, Candace Parker is here,’ in one of the biggest moments of her entire career. So that’s kind of like what set the stage for our relationship.”

That magical moment occurred after the South Carolina Gamecocks, led by Boston, defeated the UConn Huskies 64-49 in the 2022 National Championship game. When Boston spotted Parker sitting courtside during the trophy presentation, she couldn’t resist giving her idol a shoutout on national television.

Why Does the Veteran-Rookie Dynamic Matter for Post Moves?

The podcast’s unique format pairs a retired legend with an active player, creating a dynamic Parker believes will resonate with basketball fans.

Speaking about the thought process behind having one retired and one active player on the podcast, the two-time MVP said, “I think that in the podcast space, it’s important, you know, you have somebody that’s the grit, the grind that’s in it, that’s running up and down the court. And then you have me, who’s kind of removed from it, who has done that but is now doing other things.”

The show’s name carries special meaning for both hosts. Parker explained that Post Moves reflects their shared identity as post players who made their living in the paint throughout their careers. Additionally, Parker sees the podcast as her post-retirement move, a way to stay connected to the game while building something new beyond her playing days.

What Role Did Parker Play in Boston’s Professional Career?

The relationship that began with that spontaneous shoutout evolved into something much more meaningful.

“I was kind of the big sister when it came time to sign her for Adidas,” Parker explained while discussing her bond with the Fever center. “I was like, she’s an absolute perfect fit for obviously the player and dominance that she brings on the court. But off the court, she is phenomenal. And so we’ve kind of gotten to know each other. She’s with my agent, so it’s kind of like that.”

Parker’s influence proved significant in Boston’s business decisions. As one of Adidas’s most prominent athletes in 2023, Parker was perfectly positioned to advocate for Boston when the young star considered her endorsement options. The mentorship paid off for both parties. In May 2024, Adidas announced Parker’s promotion to president of women’s basketball, while Boston joined the brand’s impressive roster of talent.
