‘You Can Only Tell Close Up’ — Caitlin Clark Reveals Her Favorite Feature of Her Nike Caitlin 1 Signature Shoe

Caitlin Clark reveals her favorite detail about the Nike Caitlin 1 and explains why her signature shoe means more than a collaboration.

Caitlin Clark signed with Nike four years ago, and fans have been waiting ever since for her first signature shoe to drop. That wait is finally over. This week, Nike and Clark unveiled the Nike Caitlin 1, the debut sneaker from their partnership, and the Indiana Fever guard’s fan base is already eager to get a pair on their feet.

According to Nike, Clark leaned on the brand to nail three things with the shoe: speed, range, and unpredictability. Those traits are meant to help her attack from anywhere on the floor with confidence. So, out of everything packed into the design, what does Clark love most about the Nike Caitlin 1?

Caitlin Clark Sees Nike Caitlin 1 As More Than a Collaboration

Once the collaboration went public, the WNBA shared a video of Clark breaking it down. She pointed to the Nike Opticast upper, a unique build using cast PU nodes set at varying Z-heights, and the detail clearly excites her.

“I think it’s just one, oh my gosh,” Clark said. “I think the fact that the outside part is C’s and the inside part is 2’s. But you can only tell it’s both, though.”

Per Nike, this design goes beyond looks. It’s built to cut down drag and boost movement efficiency on the court. The visual style draws from the ripple of the 3-point arc, and Clark didn’t hold back about seeing it all come together.

“Having my own shoe has been a dream for as long as I can remember, and seeing it come to life is pretty incredible,” Clark said in Nike’s press release. “I wanted it to reflect how I play: fast, confident, and ready to let it fly. Nike and I really crushed it. It was a true partnership.”

The Nike Caitlin 1 also focuses on comfort. It has a Cushlon midsole paired with an articulated forefoot Air Zoom Turbo unit, keeping the cushioning close to the foot across every edge. That setup delivers close-to-foot responsiveness, solid containment, sharper court feel, and quicker feedback.

The shoe also has personalized touches, like the beveled framing and stacked Swooshes, a subtle nod to her initials. Even the underfoot messaging tells her story, with lines like “Shoot More Threes,” “From Anywhere,” and “It was never a long shot.”

Now, beyond the style and performance, for Clark, her Nike Caitlin 1 is more than a collaboration. Since stepping into the WNBA, Clark has carried Kobe Bryant’s retro Nike line, becoming its unofficial torchbearer along the way. With the Nike Caitlin 1, she now opens a fresh chapter in her own sneaker story.

“What excites me most is what this can mean for the next generation,” Clark said. “If it inspires even one kid to work harder or fall in love with the game, that’s what makes it special. This is so much more than a shoe — it’s about helping grow the game.”

The early numbers actually support her. The Caitlin 1 retails for $140, and pre-orders sold out on Nike’s website within 24 hours, making it one of the most in-demand shoes of the year ahead of its Oct. 1 release date.
