Cameron Brink is one of the WNBA’s rising stars. Although fans didn’t see much of her last year, they know she’s a force to be reckoned with.

The Los Angeles Sparks forward suffered an ACL injury in her rookie season, cutting her season short. Brink has not left any stone unturned to get back to her best, as she highlights her physical and mental struggles in dealing with the injury.

The second-overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft was set to tear up the court and make a name for himself. However, in her 15th game against the Connecticut Sun on June 18, she exited the game in the first quarter and hasn’t returned yet.

On the latest episode of her podcast, “Straight to Cam,” she talked about dealing with the ACL injury, her rehabilitation after the surgery, and finding her way back to the court with Stephen Curry’s sister Sydel Curry-Lee and Kayla Nicole.

“I feel like I don’t talk enough about my injury,” Brink said. “My confessional this week would be a good chance to just update everybody. I’m in month eight. It’s flown by honestly like it’s been a whirlwind, but I feel like now people don’t talk about it as much.”

“This is the hardest part for me, because I’m just finally starting to do the jumping, the running, the cutting slightly, not really supposed to cut yet, but, you know, real impact stuff. Yeah, and I went on a run the other day, and I was running for four minutes on and then, like, walking for one minute.”

The 2021 NCAA champion further stressed that she’s been physically fatigued but then went on to advise other athletes in their recovery from injuries.

“When I tell you, I’ve never been so gassed in my life. I’m not an athlete right now. And same thing with shooting, I’m like, I’m not making shots like I feel like I’m just having to relearn everything.”

“So, anyone going through an injury now, whether that’s ACL, Achilles, anything, just know that towards the end, give yourself more grace.”

Brink further highlighted that her trainers have kept her physically and mentally strong. She credited them for changing her environment and keeping things fresh constantly during the eight months of her recovery.

The Sparks begin their training camp for the next season on April 27. Brink, who has been vocal regarding the upcoming training partners, is expected to participate and complete her recovery process.
