During a practice session in Toronto, reporter Toni Canyameras asked Boston how Clark manages the massive spotlight following her every move. The former South Carolina center offered clear insight into how the point guard handles the public pressure.
“I mean, everyone deals with something differently. I think for her, obviously, there’s so much eyes. There’s always going to be comments, always going to be thoughts when it comes to her… think pieces,” Boston said.
“I think the way she shows up every single day, and she knows that we always have her back no matter what. But I mean, she comes in, she works, and if there’s anything bothering her, then she knows that we’re a safe space for her always. I think she handles it with grace,” she added.
Clark deals with an endless wave of social media noise. Critics and online haters break down her every reaction, bad game, or technical foul into massive online debates.
Having a locker room that serves as a safe space must surely help her filter out that nonstop pressure.
Boston also praised Clark for taking charge of the team as a leader. When asked about her presence in the locker room, Boston focused on her vocal role on the floor.
“Yeah, very vocal. I think being vocal is very great, especially as the point guard, when we’re on the floor. Just her being able to talk about what she sees on the floor, what we need to do. I think it’s always great to have a point guard that’s super vocal,” Boston said.
That vocal style matches her production. After an iconic rookie campaign, Clark continues to lead from the front, dropping massive scoring nights and double-doubles to secure crucial wins.
