‘The Great White Nope’ — WNBA Analyst Rips ‘Overrated’ Caitlin Clark, Compares Fever Phenom to Tim Tebow

A WNBA analyst wrote a scathing article claiming that Caitlin Clark is "overrated," going so far as to compare her to former NFL QB Tim Tebow.

Caitlin Clark remains one of the most polarizing figures in sports despite becoming one of the biggest stars in basketball and a face of the WNBA.

One WNBA analyst has now called out the Indiana Fever star for not earning her status as one of the league’s best, going as far as comparing her to former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.

WNBA Analyst Criticizes ‘Overrated’ Caitlin Clark

Clark is easily the WNBA’s most heavily scrutinized player, and her ever-increasing popularity makes her an easy target for critics. WNBA analyst Nicky Childers ripped the Iowa alum for not earning her status as the face of the league.

Calling Clark “overrated” and “petulant,” Childers claimed in her opinion piece on NewsOne that her image and hype has been “manufactured” by the league.

“Last week, her petulant temper tantrums combined with poor execution on offense and defense played out in front of massive national TV audiences, causing that curated veneer to suddenly collapse. A sudden public glitch in the matrix emerged that exposed the chasm between the league’s manufactured illusion of who they desperately need Clark to be and the raw, unedited reality of the overrated talent she is,” Childers wrote.

Childers compared Clark to Tebow, claiming that her performances have not lived up to the hype surrounding her arrival in the WNBA. Yet, she believes that Clark is not being held accountable.

“Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is a cautionary tale the WNBA should have studied before deciding to go all in on Clark,” she wrote. “Like Clark, he was drafted into the pros following a legendary college career, instantly framed by the media as a transcendent, beloved star. Once it became clear his play did not match the manufactured hype, he bounced from roster to roster, and the cultural phenomenon that had elevated him evaporated, his fanbase disappearing along with it.”

Childers went on to claim that Clark lacks the “all-around talent, competitive fire, sportsmanship, and work ethic” to live up to the hype. She added that the WNBA must accept that “their great white hope has officially become the great white nope,” and urged the league to focus its efforts on marketing A’ja Wilson, Angel Reese, Raven Johnson, Azzi Fudd, and Paige Bueckers rather than Clark.

Despite all the criticism and outside noise surrounding her performances, Clark has enjoyed an impressive start to the WNBA season. She leads the league in assists and is the fourth-highest scorer in the league, averaging 20.1 points and 8.1 assists per game.

The 6-foot-0 guard is also averaging 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game and will look to continue that run tonight when the Fever host the Atlanta Dream at 7 p.m. ET.
