In an interesting reference to describe the Indiana Fever superstar, Caitlin Clark’s own head coach, Stephanie White, dubbed her “Taylor Swift 2.0.”
It’s safe to assume that comparing her to the biggest pop star on Earth isn’t due to her singing voice but rather her popularity. The mere mention of Clark brings engagement to a level similar to that of the musical icon.
Caitlin Clark Compared to Pop Superstar Taylor Swift
Fever coach White spoke of Clark’s elite status and unprecedented popularity, comparing her to the musical icon Taylor Swift. Clark likely won’t mind that comparison since she’s a known big fan of the pop star.
Arguably, there could be stronger comparisons that would more closely consider Clark’s abilities within the sport and still uphold the same point about her immense popularity than “Taylor Swift 2.0.” For instance, LeBron James and Stephen Curry would have also made sense, too. Nevertheless, White has gone with Swift for one key reason: bringing up Clark sparks unprecedented engagement, White told the IndyStar.
“It literally is like ‘Taylor Swift 2.0,’ and because of that, her name gets thrown into a lot of conversations that have absolutely nothing to do with her, or her interests, and our team or sport, or whatever,” White elaborated to the IndyStar on the Fever Insider Podcast.

“She’s a 23-year-old kid who loves to play this game, who loves her teammates, who loves to compete.”
Interestingly, White did previously use LeBron as a comparison, as referenced in the same IndyStar article: “Her name is clickbait. Her name is utilized in a way very few athletes are. It’s in the same sphere as LeBron, Serena Williams, and Tiger Woods.” A popularity that transcends their sport, in other words.
White also sincerely wished that “Caitlin (Clark) was able to just live her life…there’s a lot of responsibility and attention that comes, because she’s elite at what she does.”

Her coach’s point was further exemplified when fellow All-Star Kelsey Plum had the not-so-subtle dig at Clark’s team’s involvement in the WNBA All-Star game’s “Pay us what you owe us” t-shirts for fair pay. The jibe was widely viewed as unnecessarily petty towards Clark, especially since she had done her part by wearing the t-shirt, and her name was brought up unprompted by Plum in her press conference.
Undoubtedly, this is an important point brought up by her coach. The spotlight Clark attracts can be draining. Although Clark seems unfazed by it due to her very personable nature, she still requires a strong support system to help her navigate this level of stardom. White seems like an ideal person to fight in her corner.
