Caitlin Clark was phenomenal once again as the Indiana Fever cruised to their fifth straight win, wrapping up a 112-98 win over the Portland Fire on Friday night.
The Fever offense continued to operate at an amazing pace, dousing the Fire with a transition game that produced another massive point total for Stephanie White’s squad.

The Fever arrived at Moda Center surrounded by off-court noise generated by Sophie Cunningham.
The former Phoenix Mercury guard sparked an intense debate following an ESPN interview in which she delivered a controversial take on trans athletes competing in women’s sports.
While the front office attempts to manage the fallout, head coach Stephanie White has kept the locker room focused entirely on basketball, and Clark seems to have insulated her production from the media noise.
The Fever star dropped 26 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds against a Portland defense that struggled to trap her in the pick-and-roll. Clark’s stunning night against Portland also saw her achieve another unique milestone.

With that triple-double, Caitlin Clark has now tied Sabrina Ionescu for the third-most triple-doubles in league history.
The WNBA community was delighted with Clark’s jaw-dropping performance, as Skip Bayless declared, “Caitlin Clark is becoming a problem for the WNBA… on the court. She’s starting to look like the MVP and her highest-scoring team is looking like a championship threat. Uh-oh.”

Clark was not carrying the offensive burden alone.
Kelsey Mitchell continued to be a lethal scoring threat in the backcourt. She entered Friday night riding a 12-game streak of scoring 20 or more points, and continued that run with a 26-point performance in Indiana’s road win.
Fire head coach Alex Sarama tried to implement a physical defensive scheme to slow down the highest-scoring offense in the league, but White’s squad blew right past it.
Inside the paint, Aliyah Boston anchored the low-post gravity. When Portland defenders over-committed to the interior, Boston moved the ball out to a waiting Clark or Mitchell, and the Fire just couldn’t keep up.
Indiana had revenge on its mind entering Friday’s matchup. Portland previously handed the Fever an embarrassing 100-84 loss at Moda Center back in May. In that clash, the Fire relentlessly targeted Clark on defense, forcing her into a season-worst six-point performance.
However, Indiana now finds itself in the top half of the standings with a 19-10 record. Clark and Co. seem to be peaking at the right time in their bid for a championship.
