Caitlin Clark Nearing Wild WNBA Record: Fever Star Ties Diana Taurasi Just 41 Games Into Pro Career

Caitlin Clark just tied a WNBA legend Diana Taurasi in record time. See how the Fever star’s rise is reshaping the league’s history after just 41 games.

The 2025 WNBA season tipped off Friday with electric momentum, leaving fans fired up. And they didn’t have to wait long for a new chapter in one of the league’s most-anticipated rivalries — the clash between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Although the Indiana Fever dominated Reese and the Chicago Sky with a 93–58 win, it was Clark who stole the spotlight in more ways than one.

Gainbridge Fieldhouse roared as Clark and Reese shared the court. Showing no rust, Reese posted an impressive double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds. But Clark took things to another level, delivering a triple-double that pushed the benchmark again and tied her with a WNBA legend.

Caitlin Clark Matches WNBA Legend Diana Taurasi With Historic Triple-Double

As Indiana cruised past Chicago on Saturday, few expected Clark to notch another career milestone. With a game-high 20 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds, she added another chapter to her growing résumé. Clark is now tied with Diana Taurasi for the second-most games in league history with at least 20 points and 10 assists — nine such games in total.

She and Taurasi sit just behind Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot.

What makes Clark’s achievement even more remarkable is how quickly she got there. Taurasi needed 565 games to reach that mark. Clark? Just 41. Vandersloot logged 10 such games in 430 appearances.

With the season just getting started, it’s a solid bet Clark will catch — or even surpass — Vandersloot sooner rather than later.

So far, Clark has scored 20 or more points in 20 of her 41 career games. As a rookie, she finished seventh in the league in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game. Her consistent output helped establish her as one of the most dominant rookies the league has ever seen — and she’s already in the MVP conversation this season. If she keeps this up, Clark could be on her way to something even bigger.

Legend Meets the Future: Taurasi and Clark Share the Court

Clark was just two years old when Taurasi made her WNBA debut in 2004. The future Fever star idolized the Mercury guard, watching her lead teams to championship runs and historic moments.

Fast forward twenty years, and Clark got her first opportunity to share the hardwood floor playing against her idol. Clark and Taurasi played against each other on June 30, 2024, in a game dubbed “The GOAT vs. The Rook,” with Taurasi, a veteran in her 20th season, facing off against Clark, a rookie in her first professional season.

Clark played all but 33 seconds and nearly had a triple-double — 15 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds — but shot four of 14 from the field and two of 10 from three-point range. Tarausi finished with 19 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Taurasi, the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer, is still the only player to surpass 10,000 points in the league.

The similarities between the two go beyond just their stats. Both are elite 3-point shooters, both dominated college basketball and the pros, and both are fierce competitors who thrive under pressure. And neither one backs down from a challenge. Now Clark, just two seasons into her young career, is on her way to surpassing Taurasi’s phenomenal achievements.
