Azzi Fudd is heading to Dallas, and it isn’t all that surprising. The former UConn standout was selected No. 1 overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2026 WNBA Draft on Monday night, setting up a professional reunion with her girlfriend and ex-college teammate, Paige Bueckers.
Fudd wasted no time making her feelings known after the pick was made official, and her words summed up what women’s basketball fans had been hoping to hear.
Azzi Fudd Will Reunite With Paige Bueckers On the Wings
“I’m excited to play again with Paige.. she’s an incredible person, incredible player.. it’s gonna be a lot of fun,” Fudd said.

Fudd is bringing one of the most dangerous shooting profiles in recent draft history. She averaged 14.7 points per game in her final college season while shooting 44.7 percent from three on high volume, earning first-team All-American honors in the process.
Bueckers had already signaled her enthusiasm about a potential reunion before the draft, saying there had been a lot of games together and that there was great success in that. The Wings backed that belief up by making Fudd the pick without hesitation.
The Wings went 10-34 last season and have now used back-to-back No. 1 picks to build what they hope is a championship-caliber backcourt. With Arike Ogunbowale also returning, the Wings have the pieces in place to make serious noise in 2026.
Dallas has been blessed with multiple No. 1 picks in consecutive years now. Cooper Flagg was the generational talent drafted by the Mavericks, and he has been absolutely balling in the NBA. Flagg is one of the main contenders for the NBA ROTY award.
Similarly, Bueckers was the other No. 1 pick for Dallas, and she has replicated what we all were in awe of when she was balling for the Huskies. Bueckers was the undisputed WNBA ROTY during the 2025 season, just like Caitlin Clark was in the year prior to that.
Under Geno Aurieamma, both Bueckers and Fudd were absolute weapons in the backcourt. Despite facing some devastating injury troubles, Bueckers and Fudd made sure to come back in style one last time for the team before bidding goodbye to the college basketball scene.
Now, the couple will suit up many more times for the Wings, who have a dangerous roster at their disposal. All they need to do is ensure that they stay healthy and work on their chemistry, and the championship will surely come to Dallas.
