‘My Dream Job Doesn’t Pay Me Enough’ – Angel Reese Expresses Frustration Over $74,909 WNBA Salary

Chicago Sky star power forward Angel Reese voices her angst towards WNBA players getting underpaid when compared to players from other major leagues

Chicago Sky star power forward Angel Reese is an energetic and widely followed athlete on social media. Her followers across various social media handles top 10 million. In addition to playing professional basketball in the WNBA, the 23-year-old is a self-proclaimed entrepreneur with many successful ventures.

She also has her own podcast show, “Unapologetically Angel,” where she invites celebrities from various domains to discuss their lives and how they achieved success in their respective fields of interest. The former LSU Tigers and Maryland Terrapins player was chosen by the Sky as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, thereby fulfilling her ultimate dream of turning pro at just 22 years old.

Angel Reese Voices Her Frustration Over Getting Underpaid in the WNBA

The latest episode of ‘Unapologetically Angel’ dropped on Thursday night, and the Sky Star took to social media to promote her podcast episode. In the post on X, while Reese provided the latest news on her podcast episode, on YouTube, she took a sly dig at her WNBA salary, comparing the revenue generated from both avenues.

In the post on X, Reese wrote, “well no i’ll never pick because my dream job doesn’t pay me enough while my side job pays me 7 figures. anywayyy…..go check out my new episode.”

Reese has always been very straightforward and outspoken when discussing players’ salaries in the league. In 2025, she will earn a WNBA salary of $74,909, which is only a slight increase from the $73,439 she earned in her rookie season.

In March 2025, the rising star was part of the Rose BC, which won the Unrivaled Championship, despite being unable to participate in the semifinals and finals of the 3-on-3 event in Miami, FL.

The winning team received a $50,000 bonus, upon which Resse wrote on X, “50K NEED DATTTTT.” Fellow WNBA star Sydney Colson was quick to share a hilarious reply to her post, writing, “Hey angel girl, just wanted to check in and see how ur doing and just let u know I’m here for u if u need anything…esp if u need to get rid of 50k by tomorrow or anything like that.”

Reese quickly responded to the comment and, in her reply, provided the grim reality of rookie players in the league getting seriously underpaid. She wrote, “Hey sista. I’m doing well. Just won 50k on a flight.”

She added, “I know you are VERY aware & I’m sorry to break it to you but I’m on a rookie contract & that 50k was a little more than half of my contract, so I have to keep that to myself…. sorry, ⠀ give me a few years and I’ll gotchu. Be well.”

To put Reese’s case into perspective, she signed a four-year, $324,383 contract as a rookie with the Sky last year. Zaccharie Risacher, the No. 1 overall pick from the 2024 NBA draft, signed a four-year, $57 million contract with the Atlanta Hawks last year, bringing in the stark contrast between the salaries of WNBA players and those of players from other major leagues.
