Will Lee III is a cornerback from Texas A&M who is ranked No. 48 on my NFL Draft Top 100 Big Board. This comprehensive scouting report analyzes Lee’s draft potential, current mock draft trends, and where he ranks among the top prospects.
Will Lee III’s NFL Draft Potential
Will Lee III entered the season as one of my top CB prospects, and while others have risen past him, Lee has at least maintained his standing as a Day 2 candidate. Lapses in technique and discipline still plague Lee at times, and teams have been able to target him on big plays on more than one occasion.
Nevertheless, Lee still displays the tantalizing combination of length, short-area quickness, and snappy fluidity that makes him such a compelling cover man, and he still exudes competitive energy and toughness in contact situations as well. Lee’s length and physicality, combined with his matching athleticism, should earn the intrigue of press-man heavy teams, but he also has the ability to anticipate and make speed turns in zone.
CFB Week 9 Update
On the surface, Lee hasn’t been quite as productive as he has been in years past, but his showing in Week 9 was another example of why that doesn’t matter all too much. On the film, Lee is producing lockdown coverage — particularly in man, where he’s able to mirror, gather, and snuff out separation with his combination of quickness, length, closing burst, and tenacious physicality. Lee will be a slightly older rookie than most other CB prospects, and he’s prone to selling out and allowing big plays on occasion — but the stifling man-to-man ability and zone-translatable tools are assuredly worth Day 2 interest.
CFB Week 10 Update
Texas A&M was on a bye in Week 10, but the Aggies will return to action in Week 11 against the ranked Missouri Tigers. It’ll be a good test for all of Texas A&M’s draft-eligible talent, as Missouri is especially strong in the trenches.
CFB Week 11 Update
Lee’s game against Missouri was, in some ways, a microcosm of his evaluation as a whole. He was largely lockdown, with just one catch allowed on five targets, per TruMedia. That one catch, however, went for 28 yards, and Lee also had a penalty called. He can be grabby and overly physical with his length when receivers get a step, but that truly isn’t often with his level of quickness, spatial IQ, and recovery speed. He’ll always invite a bit of volatility with his style, but particularly for man-heavy teams, he presents a lot of appeal, and he has utility in zone as well with his size-adjusted fluidity and blind spot awareness.
Where Is Lee Being Selected Most Often in the PFSN Mock Draft Simulator?
Lee currently holds the No. 39 overall rank among prospects, positioning him as a Day 2 prospect. His most recent Average Draft Position (ADP) of 37.6 as of November 11 reflects that he is typically being selected in the second or third round.
This small gap between rank and ADP suggests he’s consistently valued among evaluators, even amid fluctuations in player evaluations at this stage of the draft cycle.
Users controlling the Miami Dolphins have been the team that selected Lee the most frequently over the past week, accounting for 2.2% of their picks across all seven rounds.
