Get to Know Sunday Night Football Singer Lucky Daye
Lucky Daye, born David Debrandon Brown in New Orleans, Louisiana, will be performing the National Anthem, according to therams.com. He is among modern R&B’s most distinctive voices, known for his blend of R&B, funk, soul, and contemporary sonic influences. His career in music began unconventionally.
Growing up in a strict religious household, he was prohibited from listening to secular music. Nonetheless, he honed his vocal talents through church hymns. After leaving the church in his teens, Daye immersed himself in the sounds of Stevie Wonder, Prince, and D’Angelo, artists who would help shape his style.
Long before his chart success, Daye built a career behind the curtains as a songwriter and background vocalist for some of the biggest names in the industry. His writing credits include work for Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Ella Mai, and Boyz II Men, among others. Beyond that, he was also a contestant on Season 4 of American Idol in 2005, reaching the Top 20.
Daye’s breakout as a solo artist came after signing with Keep Cool and RCA Records. His 2018 debut single, “Roll Some Mo,” introduced audiences to his smooth falsetto, intricate arrangements, and fresh take on classic R&B. His 2019 debut album “Painted” earned four Grammy nominations, including Best R&B Album.
His acclaim only grew in the following years. In 2022, he won his first Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album with his EP “Table for Two”. Daye’s continued evolution led to a second Grammy win in 2025 for Best Traditional R&B Performance for “That’s You,” a track from his 2024 album “Algorithm”. The 40-year-old also scored his first Billboard Hot 100 entry with “Over,” a hit from his 2022 album “Candydrip”.
Beyond his solo work, Daye has collaborated with artists like Mark Ronson, Alicia Keys, Megan Thee Stallion, and Earth, Wind & Fire. His music has earned him numerous nominations across the American Music Awards, BET Awards, and NAACP Image Awards.
