Quinyon Mitchell claims his athleticism comes from family genes. Here are details on the Toledo cornerback's parents ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Quinyon Mitchell isn’t going to be the only one with a camera fixated on him for the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit on April 25.

He’s likely to be flanked by those closest to him at his table, including his parents. But who are the mother and father of the rising Toledo Rockets cornerback prospect?

A Look at Quinyon Mitchell’s Parents

His mother is Marshona Solomon. His father’s name is not known publicly.

However, Mitchell revealed during the 2024 NFL Combine that his dad was a quarterback at Troy State University, now known as Troy University, in the Sun Belt Conference.

Mitchell additionally claimed in his Combine interview with reporters that his grandfather is another athlete in his family tree who went by the nickname “Speed Buggy.”

    Getting To Know Mitchell’s Mother

Other than Mitchell’s brief description of his mother’s basketball career, not much is known about Solomon.

However, as detailed by Mitchell during his pre-draft interview, she watched her son struggle in the classroom and lose out on a potential scholarship offer from Florida.

Mitchell managed to refocus on his grades and ultimately landed at Toledo. Mitchell has often credited his mother for her constant support of the cornerback.

She gave birth to Mitchell in the small town of Williston, Fla., on July 18, 2001. Williston’s population is approximately 3,000 people and is located in Levy County in Western Florida. The city is located 117 miles north of Tampa Bay.

Her son wasn’t the most sought-after recruit due largely because of academics. He was also offered a scholarship by Illinois, according to 247Sports, and landed a total of nine such opportunities. However, Toledo again gave him his most time and attention — ultimately courting him to the university.

    Does Mitchell Have Any Siblings?

It’s not known if Mitchell has any brothers and sisters.

Mitchell didn’t mention having siblings during his Combine interview and other sit-downs. But from his account, he comes from an athletic family.

If anything, his Rocket teammates became his band of brothers on the football field during his time as a collegiate student-athlete.

Mitchell went on to become the school’s all-time leader in pass breakups with 46 total — which shattered the previous mark of 42 delivered by 2022 San Francisco 49ers draft pick Samuel Womack.
