Donald Trump Makes Bold Claim About Eagles Star

While the Eagles were at the White House, President Donald Trump made the claim that he told members of the New York Giants organization to re-sign running back Saquon Barkley during last offseason.

“I was with the Giants and the head coach and some people and I said, ‘Do anything you have to, but don’t lose Saquon… They lost Saquon. That was not good. I called that one. That was an easy one to call because he played damn well for the Giants, I can tell you that.”

After the president stated that, Front Office Sports reached out to Giants spokesperson Pat Hanlon for a comment. Hanlon simply said “no” before directing them to his personal X account.

“With all due respect, stop yapping. Be the leader we all want you to be. And my 401K wants you to be. I’m trying to retire!! @realDonaldTrump,” posted Hanlon.

Barkley signed with the Eagles in March 2024 to a three-year, $37.75 million contract with $26 million guaranteed over the first two years. After having one of the best seasons for a running back in NFL history as well as being an MVP finalist, Barkley signed a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension this offseason with Philadelphia.

Barkley will now be under contract through the 2028 season. This new contract also allows him to remain the highest-paid running back in the NFL. Whether President Trump really told the Giants to keep Barkley or not, it’s clear they should have, as he’s gotten off to an incredible start in the City of Brotherly Love.
