Ashton Jeanty’s path to the 2025 NFL Draft is anything but ordinary. Now, as he awaits his name to be called as the first running back off the board, fans are learning more about the unique journey that helped shape his rise.
Ashton Jeanty: From Lone Star Standout to Boise State Star
Born in Jacksonville, Fla., and raised in the competitive football landscape of Texas, Jeanty quickly developed into one of the nation’s most dynamic running backs.
Jeanty grew up in a military family — his father, Harry, was a U.S. Navy chief petty officer, which meant Jeanty moved often as a child. His travels included a stint in Naples, Italy, where he played football against other kids from military bases. He became a college football prospect during his freshman season at Naples High School in Italy, but it was at Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas, where the running back started turning heads nationwide.
Jeanty put up jaw-dropping numbers and flashed the vision, burst, and power that have now made him a Top 10 NFL Draft prospect. Blending elite vision with surprising power and top-tier acceleration, Jeanty enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, racking up over 1,800 total yards and 18 touchdowns. Scouts raved about his balance, burst, and versatility as both a not only as a runner but also pass-catcher.
Despite offers from Power Five programs, Jeanty chose Boise State — a surprising decision at the time, but it proved to be a smart one. He cemented his legacy as one of the Broncos all-time greats with a record-shattering college career that redefined the running back position.
Over three seasons, he amassed 4,769 rushing yards and 50 rushing touchdowns, setting multiple school records. His 2024 campaign was particularly historic, as he rushed for 2,601 yards — the second-highest single-season total in FBS history — and scored 29 touchdowns, narrowly missing Barry Sanders’ long-standing record by just 28 yards.
Jeanty led the nation in rushing yards after contact (1,970) and forced 164 missed tackles, both FBS records, while recording 14 consecutive 100-yard games. His accolades include the Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards, Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2023 and 2024, and a unanimous All-American selection. Jeanty’s exceptional performance propelled Boise State to a 12-2 record and a berth in the College Football Playoff, solidifying his status as a top prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Raised by Haitian-American parents, Jeanty credits his family’s work ethic and support for helping to ground him. That blend of culture, confidence, and underdog drive now powers one of the most complete backs entering the league in recent memory.
