When Will RBs Run the 40-Yard Dash at the 2024 NFL Combine?

The 40-yard dash is one of the most exciting events at the NFL Combine. When will the RBs participate at the event this year?

There are few events at the NFL Scouting Combine as exciting as the 40-yard dash, and running backs often put up some of the fastest times that NFL fans and scouts will see. While this year’s running back group isn’t the strongest in the draft, there are still plenty of intriguing players.

When will RBs run the 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine, and what is their schedule for this week?

When Will RBs Perform the 40-Yard Dash at the 2024 NFL Combine?

The NFL Combine schedule is broken down by position group. Each day, the position groups rotate through medical examinations, measurements, interviews, and on-field workouts. Because of this, different players will run the 40-yard dash on different days.

The RBs will run the 40-yard dash on March 2 as part of the on-field workout portion of the NFL Combine. Their complete schedule is below.

This year, the running backs will work out with the wide receivers and quarterbacks. They will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 27, with registration, team interviews, and orientation. Interviews and medical examinations will continue through March 1.

On March 2, measurements and on-field workouts begin for the RBs, QBs, and WRs. As part of those workouts, the players will go through drills on the field, do agility drills, and run the 40-yard dash.

Which RB Recorded the Fastest 40-Yard Dash Time in NFL Combine History?

Running backs are the third-fastest position group on average behind wid receivers and cornerbacks. The average running back 40-yard dash time is just under 4.5 seconds.

Chris Johnson put up the fastest 40-yard dash time by a running back when he ran the event in 4.24 seconds back in 2008. He went on to have a fantastic NFL career with the Tennessee Titans.

Dri Archer from Kent State is second on the list with a 4.26-second 40 time in 2014. Bo Jackson may have a claim to being the fastest NFL running back ever, with a 40-yard dash time reportedly in the 4.13-second range. Being that Jackson supposedly put up this time in 1986 before electronic timing, his time is unofficial and does not count toward any records.
