Despite playing in a league where the landscape seems to change by the month, the Pittsburgh Steelers are sticking with tradition. In 2025, they’ll once again hold training camp in a familiar place. In sports, tradition matters — not just to fans but to franchises, especially those with deep community roots.
That bond between teams and the towns they connect with goes beyond city lines. It’s personal. When a town shares a connection with a franchise, the people usually become fans. That fandom often spreads to their kids and friends. Like your aunt’s famous turkey dressing, the Steelers are keeping one of their longest-running traditions alive
When Is the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Training Camp?
- Starting Date: July 23
- Location: Latrobe, Pa.
On July 23, the team expects rookies and veterans to report to camp. The organization will conduct 17 practices, 15 of which are open to the public. The two closed practices involve a joint session with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and once camp breaks for the regular season.
Embracing the football culture in western Pennsylvania, the Steelers will conduct a Friday night practice under the lights on Aug. 1.
Most people probably couldn’t point to Latrobe, Pa., on a map. But for some who enjoy a certain beverage, the name rings a bell. And for Steelers fans, the pilgrimage to Latrobe — about 40 miles from Pittsburgh — is a summertime ritual. Saint Vincent College will host the team’s training camp for the 58th year.

What To Expect From the Steelers at Training Camp in 2025
With training camp still seven weeks away, Pittsburgh still faces myriad questions. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has not put pen to paper, leaving the team to depend on veteran Mason Rudolph for now. The fanbase already saw that movie and knows the ending. Rodgers’ expected signing would calm the rising feeling of unsettled nerves that looms over the team.
As well, fans await whether the team will agree on a contract extension with edge rusher T.J. Watt, who enters the final year of his deal. And with free agent Gabe Davis coming in for a visit, will the team sign a street free agent or pursue a trade for a wideout?
This spring, the Steelers shipped wideout George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. As of right now, veteran Robert Woods occupies the spot opposite DK Metcalf. While sure-handed (22 career drops), the 33-year-old hasn’t tallied a 1,000-yard season since 2019.
Although the Steelers pride themselves on organizational stability, if they don’t resolve current issues by the start of camp, they could be in for a long season. Either way, it bears watching as one of the NFL’s cornerstone teams kicks off another training camp in small-town America.
