One of the main talking points this offseason has been surrounding the negotiations between the Dallas Cowboys and star edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Parsons has “held in” all offseason and did not participate in training camp. Many people thought the offseason drama would eventually come to an end with Parsons re-signing with the Cowboys. However, news has just broken that has shocked the entire NFL world. The Cowboys agreed to trade Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark.
Micah Parsons Set for Early Return to Dallas With Cowboys-Packers Matchup
Parting ways with Parsons is a move that most general managers would not make, but Jerry Jones is known for making bold moves. Trading Parsons is one thing, but trading him to an NFC contender like the Packers is even more mind-boggling. Now, looking ahead to the Cowboys’ 2025 schedule, one game stands out in particular.
Looking ahead at the 2025 NFL schedule, one game now stands out amongst the rest. That is the Packers taking on the Cowboys in Week 4 of the regular season on Sunday Night Football. This will be an exciting game for Parsons as he heads back to Dallas for the first time, and he will be highly motivated.

Looking at this trade from afar, it is mind-boggling for the Cowboys. Trading one of the best defensive players in football makes no sense. But, for this trade to happen, it was most likely because it was something the Cowboys wanted. Parsons received a $47 million per year extension from the Packers, and Dallas was clearly not willing to pay that.

The Packers are now a legitimate Super Bowl contender, and the Cowboys look to be headed down a dark path for the 2025 season.
Dallas will have a difficult time rushing the passer and will likely still struggle with a poor run defense, a trend that has persisted for years. Green Bay is already favored to win the Week 4 matchup.
Cowboys Were Ready to Move On
During the offseason, there appeared to be some bad blood between Jones and Parsons. Negotiations did not go well, which ultimately led to the trade being completed.
Despite the Cowboys’ claim that they want to compete for the Super Bowl, this move suggests they are heading towards a rebuild.
Dallas will be an interesting team to watch this season, and they will be in the news plenty. But, expecting them to compete for a Super Bowl after trading away Parsons seems far-fetched.
