Travis Hunter recently added an off-the-field achievement to his kitty. As if playing two positions in football isn’t enough, he has also excelled academically. The University of Colorado star concluded his time at the university and graduated with a degree at a ceremony held on Thursday.

Travis Hunter Graduates With a Degree in Anthropology
Hunter completed his time at the University of Colorado, graduating with a degree in Anthropology. Anthropology is the study of the origin, development, and behavior of human beings from the past to the present.
Hunter found time to excel in his studies despite his sports career, finishing with a 4.0 GPA and earning first-team Academic All-American honors twice. The Academic All-Americans are student-athletes who perform exceptionally well in both academics and sports. WNBA star Caitlin Clark was among the recipients when she was at Iowa.
Other award recipients include Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze, who was honored when he was at Washington, and Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis from Kentucky.
On the football front, Hunter leaves Colorado as a Heisman Trophy winner. He also joins Bo Matthews as the highest draft pick from the program. Both athletes were selected with the second pick in the NFL draft. Hunter also had his jersey retired by the Buffaloes recently.
Last season, the two-way star was successful playing both offense and defense. As quarterback Shedeur Sanders’s favorite target on offense, Hunter recorded 1,258 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns as a wide receiver. His play at cornerback was even better. Hunter had four interceptions, 11 passes defended, and 35 total tackles. He also forced a game-winning fumble at the 1-yard line in a matchup against Baylor in 2024.
Travis Hunter Begins Life as a Jacksonville Jaguar
Now that his time in Colorado is over, Hunter will focus on his duties as a professional football player for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars gave up a few picks, including the 5th and 36th picks in the 2025 draft and a 2026 first-round pick, to move up three spots to select Hunter at the recent NFL Draft.
Hunter probably would not have had much time to celebrate his graduation, as he had to travel halfway across the country to get to Jacksonville in time for rookie minicamp, which started on May 9. Jaguars fans could also watch Hunter in action, as the team opened up Saturday’s practice to the public.
The two-way standout has already indicated that he intends to play both wide receiver and cornerback for the Jaguars, just like he did in college, and new head coach Liam Coen appears to be on board with the idea. Coen stated in the introductory press conference that he plans to keep the Heisman winner’s role similar to what it was during his time at Colorado.
