One of the most anticipated awards to be announced in the 2024 NFL Honors is the Associated Press Most Valuable Player. An award dominated by quarterbacks, a positional player has not won since 2012 when Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson took home the hardware. Let’s take a look at the finalists for the award.
Who Are the 2024 AP MVP Finalists?
49ers RB Christian McCaffrey had an incredible season, gaining 2,023 yards from scrimmage and 21 touchdowns. The three-time first-team All-Pro back’s addition to San Francisco’s roster last season was promising, but McCaffrey was able to show his true potential with an entire season in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
With that said, McCaffrey has some stiff competition to take the award home.
A fellow 49ers star, quarterback Brock Purdy, finds himself as an MVP finalist in the second season of his career. Purdy threw for the fifth-most yards this season with 4,280 and tossed 31 touchdowns (third most). He limited his turnovers, too.
Yet, of all the candidates under center, Purdy had the most talented group of offensive playmakers.
From here, things get interesting. The last three finalists are Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, and Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson.
While Allen’s stats are slightly worse than the others, he was instrumental in Buffalo’s late-season surge to win the AFC East. Meanwhile, Prescott led a potent Dallas offense with a season-high 36 passing touchdowns.
Lastly, Jackson and the Ravens’ offense saw a massive improvement after hiring Todd Monken as offensive coordinator this past offseason. Jackson threw 24 TDs and a career-high 3,678 yards while tacking on an additional 821 yards and five scores on the ground.

It seems like Jackson is the favorite to win MVP at the 2024 NFL Honors, but crazier things have happened.
