Anthony Richardson has found his way into the game for the Indianapolis Colts, what does that mean for starting quarterback Daniel Jones?

The Indianapolis Colts have been among the most surprising teams starting the 2025 NFL season. After benching former fourth overall pick Anthony Richardson in favor of former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, expectations were not high for Indianapolis in 2025.

After four weeks of a surprisingly dominant offense, Anthony Richardson has entered the Colts’ Week 5 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Here’s everything to know about Daniel Jones’ status.

What Happened to Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones?

No, there’s nothing wrong with Daniel Jones. In fact, he’s been under center for yet another Colts beatdown as Indianapolis won 40-6 against the Raiders. Jones completed 20 of 29 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns. He was not a threat on the ground with Jonathan Taylor rushing for three touchdowns.

With the game firmly out of reach, the Colts pulled Jones to keep him healthy, giving Richardson some snaps. The breakout is genuinely surprising for Jones, as he struggled to maintain positive momentum during his time with the Giants. While he showed flashes, a mistake always stopped New York from committing to the signal-caller.

What’s been so impressive for Jones with the Colts this season is that he has not turned the ball over through five weeks. That’s a massive change from his time with the Giants, when his turnovers came at back-breaking times. With solid weapons to rely on in Taylor, several receivers, and a defense firing on all cylinders to shut down opponents, the Colts defied expectations in 2025.

If Indianapolis can keep this up, which, with the teams they have played, there’s no reason to think they can’t, the Colts could be legitimate playoff contenders if Jones keeps his level of play where it is. He’s bound to turn over the ball eventually, but as long as he limits his mistakes, he’s massively raised the ceiling of Indianapolis’ offense and future outlook.

Few expected this, but with the struggles the other teams in the AFC South are facing, the Colts could be headed to their first divisional title since 2014. The Houston Texans seemed to have bounced back with a big win against the Baltimore Ravens, but the Colts still have a cushion as they look the most complete in the AFC South.
