What Happened to Cooper Rush? Breaking Down Why Tyler Huntley Is in at QB for Ravens

Baltimore Ravens starting QB Cooper Rush was benched in the third quarter in favor of Tyler Huntley. What happened to Rush?

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Cooper Rush has been counted on to perform as well as possible with starter Lamar Jackson out with an injury. Rush started Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

Well, Rush’s effort was not impressive at all. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh made the call in the third quarter with Baltimore down 17-3 to the Rams. Yes, Ravens fans, Rush was benched.

Cooper Rush Benched By Ravens For Tyler Huntley

With Rush simply not getting the job done, Harbaugh put Tyler Huntley into the game with the hopes that he could stir the Ravens’ offensive game plan.

Rush was 11-of-19 for 72 yards and one interception while he was in the game. Rush didn’t connect with any Ravens receivers for touchdowns, leading the Baltimore fans in the stadium to boo lustily.

Now that Rush has been benched in favor of Huntley, it will open up questions as to whether or not that he remains on the team.

How was Huntley doing? He wasn’t putting up impressive numbers himself. Late in the fourth quarter with the Rams still up 17-3, Huntley was 7-of-9 passing for 40 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions.

Rush had been a longtime backup to Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott before coming over to Baltimore. Rush, at times, did show an ability to lead the Cowboys offense in an effective way. Based on Sunday’s results, though, Rush just might be looking for a new job later in the week.

Harbaugh can’t wait until Jackson is available to return. Last week, Rush started against the Houston Texans and saw the Ravens lose 44-10. He couldn’t make the Baltimore offense go against a fierce Texans defense. Even star running back Derrick Henry has been more mortal than immortal so far for Baltimore, too.

Put together Rush’s ineffectiveness and Henry’s rather lackluster season so far, and the Ravens have a losing combination. Entering the 2025 NFL season, Baltimore had Super Bowl ambitions. Should Baltimore lose to Los Angeles, their record this season will drop to 1-5.

Rush has not been able to bring to the Ravens a mirror image of Jackson’s pocket presence and ability to get yards with his legs. It will be a long week for Ravens followers and fans.
