What Colors Are the 49ers and Chiefs Wearing Today? Details and Win-Loss Records for Respective Super Bowl Uniforms

We take a look at the Chiefs and 49ers' uniforms for the Super Bowl and the record for home and away teams based on the matchup in the game.

After a long, hard-fought year on the field, the NFL season comes to a dramatic end tonight with the playing of Super Bowl 58. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to take on Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers. The two best teams in the NFL are set to decide who will raise the Lombardi Trophy and reign supreme over the rest of the league.

But with every detail of the game being covered, an important one is which uniforms the 49ers and the Chiefs will be wearing. While it may seem insignificant to some, there seems to be a bit of a trend growing that suggests otherwise. We discuss, and examine it all ahead of the big game.

49ers and Chiefs Uniforms for Super Bowl 58

The Chiefs head into the matchup looking to become back-to-back champions with a win, potentially being the first franchise to do so in nearly two decades. They will look to do so while donning their home red uniforms that they wear most often while playing at Arrow Head Stadium.

By wearing their red uniforms, the Chiefs are officially designated as the home team for the game, setting the 49ers up as the away team that will don their road white uniform.

The home club for the Super Bowl is decided via a system used by the league that rotates between the AFC and NFC conferences annually. From there, the home team selects the jersey it wishes to wear, forcing the other side to pick a non-primary-colored jersey.

White Uniform Team’s Record in the Super Bowl

With the home team wearing their primary color in the Super Bowl, it often lends itself to them wearing some variation of white, with there being at least one team wearing white in the big game every year since Super Bowl 1.

While it seems insignificant on the surface, there are actual numbers to prove that, over the recent history of the big game, the team that has worn white has been more successful.

Teams wearing white jerseys in the Super Bowl have a 16-3 record since 2004. This trend, however, was bucked the last time these two teams met in the Super Bowl. They faced off in 2020 in Super Bowl 54, with the Chiefs wearing red and the 49ers wearing their white uniforms.

The Chiefs went on to win that game 31-20, but they later continued the trend of the white-wearing team finding success when they beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57. For the Chiefs, they hope it is just a coincidence or they can beat the trend again, while the 49ers are hoping it is just more to come tonight.
