NFL Teams On the Rise
Buffalo Bills
After last week’s embarrassing loss to the Dolphins, there was a ton of talk about what’s wrong with the Bills. Buffalo fans were panicking, but the Bills bounced back in a major way in Week 11 with a 44-32 statement win over the Buccaneers.
Josh Allen put the team on his back, totaling six touchdowns (three passing and three rushing) plus 317 passing yards and 40 rushing yards.
Buffalo now has an 87.8% chance of making the playoffs and a 20.8% chance of winning the division after Sunday’s win, according to PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor.
Jacksonville Jaguars
After losing three of four games, the Jaguars blew out the Chargers 35-6 in Week 11 to give their postseason hopes a huge boost. Entering this week, Jacksonville had just a 43.2% chance of making the playoffs, but with the big win in Week 11, the Jaguars’ postseason odds now sit at 64.3%.
Jacksonville rushed for 192 yards and four touchdowns on the ground against Los Angeles, with Travis Etienne Jr. (two scores), Bhayshul Tuten (one), and Trevor Lawrence (one) all getting in on the fun. Jacksonville’s midseason acquisition Jakobi Meyers also stepped up, catching five passes for 64 yards.
NFL Teams On the Decline
Detroit Lions
Having only scored nine points in their loss to the Eagles on Sunday night, the Lions’ offense looked uncharacteristically dull in Week 11. Their loss dropped their record down to 6-4, and they now trail both the Bears and Packers within the competitive NFC North.
Though they’re in third place within their division, the Lions are viewed favorably by PFSN’s analytics model, particularly for their high quality of losses and dominant play in their victories. The Lions’ playoff chances dipped by 14.7 percentage points with Sunday night’s loss. According to PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor, they currently have a 64% chance of making the playoffs and a 28.5% chance of winning the division.
It’s clear Detroit is one of the most talented teams in the NFL, but they’ll have to start winning more games against teams above .500 to make noise in the playoffs.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers didn’t just lose to the Jaguars in Week 11, they got blown out 35-6. This beatdown is bad news for Los Angeles, as it caused their playoff odds to dip by 23.9 percentage points.
The Chargers now have just a 62% chance of making the playoffs and a 14.7% chance of winning their division, according to PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor.
The Chargers will have a bad taste in their mouth for a while, as they have a Week 12 bye week. Then, they will look to bounce back in Week 13 against the Raiders (before two tough games against the Eagles and Chiefs).
