It’s hard to watch a player like Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill go down with a dislocated left knee on “Monday Night Football.” Viewers around the NFL world were glued to their TV sets in the hopes of seeing a great game between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
But their viewing emotions probably harkened back to some memories of those old enough to remember. They might recall seeing former Washington quarterback Joe Theismann suffer a gruesome leg injury when he was playing against Lawrence Taylor and the New York Giants years ago.
What Were NFL Fans Saying About Tyreek Hill’s Injury?
On Tuesday, NFL insider Adam Schefter provided another concerning update on Hill. “In addition to dislocating his knee, Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill also tore multiple ligaments in his knee, including his ACL, per sources,” he wrote. “Hill remains hospitalized and will undergo surgery today.”
NFL insider Ian Rapoport also gave an update on Hill’s potential return timeline. “With surgery today, it’s possible that Tyreek Hill will undergo additional surgeries,” Rapoport said. “There is no guarantee he’ll be ready for 2026. None of his 2026 salary is guaranteed now, but $11M (of $29.9M) becomes fully guaranteed if he’s on the roster in March, plus a $5M roster bonus.”
One fan posted a video that showed the play where Hill was hurt. In another photo in the same post on X, there is visual evidence of Hill’s leg totally mangled.

As for this fan, the person seemed to immediately know what happened to Hill on the play. It was not good at all.

While others were posting their reactions online, too, this X account gave fans some news at the time the play took place. Hill was injured when a Jets player tackled him near the sidelines. When Hill rolled over on his back, his left leg was going in a direction that a leg should not go.
This account wrote, “BREAKING: Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill has suffered a serious leg injury. Players are kneeling and praying for the Miami star as medical staff attends to him on the field.”

This fan caught a clip of Hill being carted away in a wheelchair while apparently looking to reach out to his family after the play happened. In the video, a medical person is helping to get Hill probably to the awaiting ambulance and head toward a local hospital.
“Tyreek got some gruesome injury” was what this person wrote on X.

What’s really sad is that Hill was having an excellent game for the Dolphins, who beat the Jets 27-21 on Monday night. Hill had six catches for 67 yards and no touchdowns, but he was really showing off his speed. “Cheetah” was helping Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa out with post-catch runs up the field.
Now Tagovailoa has to trust other pass-catching options like Jaylen Waddle and Darren Waller as the season rolls along. Fans watching at home were hoping for the best for Hill at this time.
