No player stirred as much controversy this offseason as Shedeur Sanders. Whether because of his personality, his dramatic fall in the draft, or bold statements, Sanders dominated media narratives and entered the NFL with both high expectations and plenty of doubts.
His most recent appearance in the headlines, however, was not for anything positive. Sanders was pulled over by authorities for driving 101 mph on I-71, receiving a ticket for the offense. In a bodycam video that surfaced, the interaction between the police officers and the quarterback can be seen.

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Pulled Over For Speeding on I-71
Unlike most rookies entering the NFL, Sanders already carried a celebrity status before ever stepping on an NFL field. The exposure brought by his family turned Sanders into a public figure, often perceived as arrogant. However, since the draft, he has been working on reshaping that image in the media.
Still, mistakes happen, and the latest one occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 17. Sanders was pulled over for speeding on I-71, driving his black Dodge Ram TRX near the Ohio Turnpike bridge. In the video, the officers are seen approaching while Sanders remains inside the vehicle, following their instructions.
The quarterback was released after receiving a citation and was instructed to appear in Strongsville Mayor’s Court on July 3. However, according to the citation, he won’t be required to attend in person if he pays the fine beforehand. Sanders was clocked at 101 mph, which is 41 mph over the speed limit for that stretch of the road.
Police also reported that a woman driving alongside Sanders and referred to as his girlfriend was pulled over as well for speeding at 92 mph. In the video, Sanders can be heard telling the officer that he didn’t think he was going that fast. The officer then replies, “How fast did you think you were going if you didn’t think you were 101? Because I know this truck, supercharged, will do it.”
Sanders’ truck was registered in Colorado, while his driver’s license was issued in Mississippi. The license was considered valid, and the stop ended smoothly, with the quarterback being cooperative throughout the process.
Off the field, this was just another media appearance for Sanders. But on the field, the pressure is already mounting. The quarterback is currently in the middle of a four-way battle for the Browns’ starting job, facing tough competition from veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, along with rookie Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted ahead of him. Sanders’ journey in the NFL is only beginning, and the next few months are set to be crucial.
