At the age when most NFL running backs start to lose their edge, Aaron Jones is instead showing off his athleticism and charisma. Born on Oct. 19, 1994, Jones is currently 30 years old and says he’s never felt better, thanks to the mindset that he’s been building.
While his words were motivational enough, it was Jones’ candid (and hilarious) admission that truly convinced people he means it.
Aaron Jones Makes Hilarious Admission on Age
At 30 years old, Jones had one of his best seasons last year. The Minnesota Vikings running back set a career high in rushing yards with 1,138 and added 408 receiving yards on 51 receptions. His 255 carries also marked a personal best. In total, he had 306 combined rushes and receptions — another career high.
Asked if age was affecting his performance, Jones shut down any doubt with confidence and humor.
“I feel the best I’ve ever felt. I feel like I’m back to 24 or 25 years old,” Jones said in an interview. “Age is just a number. I’ve been saying that ever since I was a little kid, trying to get older women,” he added, making the audience erupt in laughter.
After his strong season, the Vikings locked Jones in with a two-year, $20 million deal, including $13 million guaranteed. Returning to Minnesota was a “no-brainer” for him, having said that the culture and people made it feel like home.
“So when I first came in, this place felt like home,” Jones said. “They welcomed me in with open arms. And then throughout the year, just seeing how it’s used in the system, the culture that’s been established here, the support system, everything. So it was really a no-brainer.”
The Vikings Could Add More Players to the RB Room
In February, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell talked about the team’s goal of bringing Jones back and building on the running back room with more talent.
“So, I would love to have Aaron back,” O’Connell told SiriusXM. “And then we just continue to grow in that room, whether it’s infusing a young player in the draft or maybe another player in free agency alongside Aaron Jones, hopefully.”
The first part is done with Jones re-signing. Now, the Vikings could look to the NFL Draft to add depth behind him. While running back might not be their first-round pick, Minnesota will likely be targeting offensive pieces in the 2025 NFL Draft. They will have to be strategic about it, however, as the Vikings currently hold just four picks in the draft.
