The Pittsburgh Steelers shocked the NFL world with their decision to trade star wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, dealing a major blow to their receiving corps. But for many insiders, the move was less about giving up on a top talent and more about making space for a new offensive direction — one likely to revolve around veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
With Rodgers rumored to be on the verge of joining the Steelers, attention has shifted to which receivers could follow him to Pittsburgh, and the Green Bay Packers’ Romeo Doubs has emerged as the prime candidate.

NFL Insider Claims Packers Are Unlikely To Trade Romeo Doubs to Steelers
Doubs has served as the second receiving option in Green Bay, while Christian Watson has continued to struggle with injuries. The Packers also have Jayden Reed on the roster and selected Matthew Golden (Round 1) and Savion Williams (Round 3) in the 2025 NFL Draft, thereby opening the possibility of Doubs being traded.
While Doubs has been a consistent playmaker for the Packers since being drafted in 2022, his two separate concussions last season worried head coach Matt LaFleur.
“I’m concerned, absolutely,” LaFleur said following a wild-card playoff loss to the Eagles. “But I haven’t talked to our medical people. I haven’t sat down with them about whether there’s long-term concern, but anytime a guy gets two concussions, I can’t help but be concerned by that.”
However, LaFleur seemed to be happy with Doubs and his receiver room following the draft, telling ESPN’s Peter Schrager that the Packers want to keep their young receiver group intact.
“LaFleur was like Romeo Doubs is great in our building,” Schrager told Pat McAfee. “So, I don’t think one of those Packers receivers is being shipped either just to make Rodgers happy, which is been an assumption online. I think the Packers are very happy with their young wide receiver group.”
Also from @PSchrags, the Green Bay Packers are unlikely to trade Romeo Doubs to the Steelers.
Peter was speaking about how he had dinner with Coach LaFleur at the draft, and said that coach is very happy with the current wide receiver room.

Doubs was a rookie in 2022 during what would be Rodgers’ final season with the Packers, catching 42 passes for 425 and three scores. Over two seasons with new starting quarterback Jordan Love, the third-year receiver has logged 1,275 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Doubs remains a productive, young pass-catching option with upside. LaFleur seems intent on keeping him despite rumors of a potential trade to Pittsburgh to reunite with Rodgers. Besides, there are other good options available for Pittsburgh.
Sure, Doubs does carry built-in chemistry with Rodgers. He could help accelerate the learning curve if both he and the four-time MVP land in Pittsburgh, especially since the Steelers lack an established WR2 after trading Pickens.
God this is so stupid! Why would Green Bay help AAron Rodgers? The BS he tried to put the team thru surely was not comfortable to the whole team, players and fan base.
We can see from his present behavior that he has not changed and his value as a player is greatly dimmed. This star has already novaed, shrinking into a black hole.
Steelers let him “Rest in Peace.”
