The New York Giants’ disappointing start to the 2025 season took another turn on Sunday night. In front of a prime-time audience, the team not only fell to 0-3Â but also lost one of its most important offensive weapons. What happens next could determine how the Giants manage their early-season struggles.
Giants Offense Faces More Uncertainty After Week 3 Setback
Tyrone Tracy Jr. left the field against the Kansas City Chiefs with a dislocated shoulder, a setback that will keep him out of action for the first time in his young NFL career.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the 25-year-old running back is expected to miss between two and four weeks. His absence will stretch across several crucial games, with a possible return against the Eagles in Week 6, the Broncos in Week 7, or the Eagles again in Week 8.
The timing is difficult for a Giants team already searching for offensive consistency. Tracy emerged last year as a focal point in the post-Saquon Barkley era, starting 12 games and producing 1,123 scrimmage yards with six touchdowns on 230 touches.
That production underscored his importance to Brian Daboll’s system, even as New York’s overall offensive efficiency faltered.
Tracy had not matched his rookie-year pace through three games this season, but his steady role made him central to the Giants’ attack. His absence now shifts responsibilities to veteran Devin Singletary and rookie Cam Skattebo.
The latter provided a rare bright spot in Sunday’s 22-9 loss, finishing with 121 total yards and a touchdown. With Tracy sidelined, his workload could continue to grow.
The defeat itself once again highlighted New York’s larger issues. The Giants managed just nine points in their home opener and drew boos from the crowd.
After the game, head coach Brian Daboll admitted, “I’d be booing too, to be honest with you, in terms of not being good enough, not scoring, not finishing. I understand that. That’s the nature of it. We got to be better.”
After speaking after the game, Quarterback Russell Wilson acknowledged the emotional impact of losing Tracy mid-game.
He said, “It’s tough when you see a guy like Tracy, one of your star running backs, go down with a shoulder on the sideline. Had a good couple runs, couple of good plays. So I think that was tough for us, but I thought we continued to battle throughout,” according to ESPN.
The Giants will now enter Week 4 against the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers without their top backfield option. With a winless start and lingering uncertainty under center, Tracy’s injury compounds the pressure on Daboll, general manager Joe Schoen, and the rest of the staff as they fight to stabilize a season already at risk of unraveling.
